AMES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads says offensive coordinator Mark Mangino has left the program. Rhoads says he and Mangino haven’t been on the same page for weeks. Rhoads wouldn’t say whether Mangino quit or was fired. The move Monday came on the same day Iowa State promoted sophomore Joel Lanning to a starting role over senior Sam Richardson, but Rhoads says Lanning’s promotion was not the reason Mangino left.
Rhoads announced that passing game coordinator Todd Sturdy will take over for Mangino, starting with Saturday’s game against Texas (3-4, 2-2 Big 12). Mangino was 50-48 in eight seasons as the coach at Kansas. He joined Rhoads’ staff prior to last season. Iowa State (2-5, 1-3) is averaging 26.9 points per game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alex Smith threw for 251 yards and a touchdown, Cairo Santos kicked three field goals and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the injury-filled Pittsburgh Steelers 23-13 on Sunday to snap a five-game losing streak. Charcandrick West added 110 yards rushing and his first career touchdown for the Chiefs (2-5), and Eric Berry intercepted his first pass since his cancer diagnosis last December.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs shut down Pittsburgh’s Landry Jones, who made his first NFL start in place of the injured Ben Roethlisberger and Mike Vick. Jones threw for 209 yards and a touchdown, but he was also picked off twice and lost a fumble. LeVeon Bell ran for 121 yards for the Steelers (4-3). Antonio Brown had six catches for 124 yards, and Martavis Bryant caught his 11th touchdown pass in 12 games.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Andy Rice threw for 267 yards with four touchdowns and Drake defeated Jacksonville 28-24 on Saturday. Rice connected with Andrew Yarwood from 19 yards out with 3:14 left for the game’s final score. Drake (4-4, 3-2 Pioneer Football League) took command early when Rice found Eric Saubert twice for scores_of 13 and 9 yards_to give the Bulldogs a 14-3 lead before the Dolphins scored three straight touchdowns.
Kade Bell hit Brian Burnett from 33 yards just before the half. After the break, Bell found Orlando Thomas on a 10-yarder and Ulysses Bryant ran three yards to give the Dolphins a 24-14 lead. But Rice connected with Saubert again for a 10-yard TD toss with 13:30 left in the game to cut the lead to 24-21. Saubert finished with nine catches and 118 yards.
Bell threw for 235 yards and Bryant ran for 104 for Jacksonville (6-1, 3-1).
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Aaron Bailey ran for 169 yards and the game-winning score as Northern Iowa picked up its first conference win on Saturday with a 10-7 victory over South Dakota State. Bailey also had 113 yards passing for the Panthers (3-4, 1-3 Missouri Valley Conference). He outperformed the entire South Dakota State offense with 282 total yards. The Panthers’ defense held the Jackrabbits (5-2, 2-2) to 259 yards.
Bailey’s game-winning 35-yard touchdown run came with the Panthers trailing 7-3 and capped a five-play, 79-yard drive with 6:04 left in the third quarter. Michael Schmadeke kicked a 24-yard field goal late in the second quarter and Northern Iowa was up 3-0 at the break.
But midway through the third quarter, South Dakota State’s Taryn Christion connected with Connor Landberg for a touchdown and a 7-3 lead. Christion finished with 156 yards passing for the Jackrabbits.
WACO, Texas (AP) — Shock Linwood ran for 171 yards with a touchdown, and caught a pass for another score as second-ranked Baylor beat Iowa State 45-27 for its FBS-best 20th consecutive home win while ending another impressive streak Saturday.
On a rainy day along the Brazos River, the Bears (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) were held under 60 points for the first time in six games. The only other NCAA team with five consecutive 60-point games was Oklahoma in 2008.
Corey Coleman had two more touchdown catches, his sixth consecutive game with multiple scores pushing his FBS-leading total to 18. He also surpassed Kendall Wright’s school record for career touchdowns with his 31st.
Coleman had a 36-yard score on Baylor’s opening drive, then had a downfield block that helped quarterback Seth Russell break free on a 37-yard TD run for a quick 14-0 lead. Coleman caught a 12-yarder from Jarrett Stidham in the closing minutes.
Iowa State fell to 2-5, 1-3.
