Pittsburgh (AP)- Pittsburgh has listed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as questionable for Sunday’s game at Kansas City. He was a limited participant in practice for a third straight day while continuing to recover from a strained ligament in his left knee in a game with St. Louis Sept. 27. Landry Jones will start if Roethlisberger doesn’t return.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Lorenzo Cain sprinted home from first base on Eric Hosmer’s single in the eighth inning, Wade Davis weathered a 45-minute rain delay and a white-knuckle ninth, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 Friday night to earn their second straight trip to the World Series.

The victory in Game 6 of the AL Championship Series sent the Royals into the World Series, starting Tuesday night at home against the New York Mets.

After the delay, Cain promptly worked a leadoff walk from closer Roberto Osuna, and Hosmer followed with a clean single that Bautista fielded down the right-field line.

Rather than hit the cutoff man, though, Bautista threw to second to keep Hosmer to a single. That gave the speedy Cain, running full speed the entire way, enough time to beat the relay throw from second base with a textbook slide that ignited a sellout crowd.

Davis retired Josh Donaldson on a grounder with runners on second and third to end it.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Chiefs wide receiver Jeremy Maclin has passed the league’s concussion protocol and should be available for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Maclin was hurt in last week’s loss in Minnesota. He did not work out early in the week while undergoing tests, but returned to practice Friday on a limited basis.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Maclin “has passed everything. We just have to see tomorrow how he feels. But he did, he went through practice today and did a nice job with it.”

Maclin is the Chiefs’ leading receiver with 39 catches for 531 yards and a touchdown. No other wide receiver on the roster has more than eight receptions.

WACO, Texas (AP) — Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads knows it will be difficult trying to stop second-ranked Baylor’s big-play offense. The 2-4 Cyclones on Saturday play one of the nation’s top three offenses for the third week in a row. Baylor is the best of the bunch by a large margin, piling up 720 total yards and 64 points a game.

Only halfway through the regular season for 6-0 Baylor, Corey Coleman already has a school-record 16 touchdown catches. Seth Russell leads the FBS with his 27 touchdown receptions and Shock Linwood leads the Big 12 with 134 yards rushing per game. The Bears have an FBS-best 19-game home winning streak. They won 62-38 last week over West Virginia, the only team to beat them in the regular season last year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Andy Reid was never under any pretense that Jamaal Charles was irreplaceable. Shortly after the four-time Pro Bowl running back went down with a season-ending ACL injury, the Chiefs coach was among the first to acknowledge the difficulty in replacing him. So far, that challenge has proven to be bigger than even Reid estimated.

In their first game without No. 25 in the backfield, the Chiefs were bottled up a week ago by the Minnesota Vikings. Charcandrick West ran for 33 yards, Knile Davis managed just 13 more on five carries, and the Chiefs finished with 57 yards rushing in a 16-10 defeat. In the five games before Charles was hurt? The Chiefs averaged 110 yards on the ground.

“There were some positive things that are going to get overlooked because we didn’t win the game,” Reid said. “Charcandrick did some nice things — nice things, really.” Then again, he also fumbled late in the game, squandering a chance at a go-ahead touchdown.
