Iowa’s Jordan Bohannon came out on top of the 2022 College 3-Point Contest on Thursday evening in New Orleans. Bohannon won the men’s division of the contest and then also won the match-up with the women’s contest winner at the end of the event. Bohannon topped Brad Davison of Wisconsin, Alfonso Plummer of Illinois, Sasha Stefanovic of Purdue, Carl Pierre of Rice, Alex O’Connell of Creighton, and Davion Mintz of Kentucky in the contest.

Bohannon started slow with 15 points in the opening round but advanced to the semifinals on a tiebreaker. He then totaled 20 points in the semis, making all the money balls and notching 14 points through the first three racks alone. He then matched up against Brad Davison of Wisconsin in the men’s final. Davison tallied 17 points in his run but Bohannon came up with the shots he needed late. He had just five points through the first two racks but made 8 straight shots, including a perfect run at the top of the key to close in. He made the first four of the final rack to edge past Davison 18-17.

Bohannon then met women’s champion Kendall Spray of Florida Gulf Coast in the “Battle of the Sexes” final and came out a 21-19 winner. He made 11 straight shots in the final run and the final money ball was the difference.

Creighton’s O’Connell had the second best first round performance with 17 points and fell two points shy of the final with 17 again in the semifinals. O’Connell also participated in the slam dunk contest but lost out on a tiebreak in the first round.

Taze Moore of Houston was the Slam Dunk Contest winner, beating out Alondes Williams of Wake Forest in the finals.

Joens was named a Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press and USBWA.

She helped the Cyclones to a program record 28 wins, along with a record-setting 14 conference wins. Iowa State finished league action second in the conference and also spent much of the 2021-22 season in the AP Top 10.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa women’s basketball sophomore Caitlin Clark was named a WBCA All-American and senior Monika Czinano, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced Thursday.

Ten student-athletes were named to the WBCA All-America team, including two sophomores, two juniors and six seniors. Clark and Michigan’s Naz Hillmon represent the Big Ten Conference.

Clark, a Des Moines, Iowa, native, led the nation in points per game (27.0), assists per game (8.0), total assists (257), total points (863), free throws made (200), triple doubles (5) and 30-point games (11). Clark is the only women’s basketball player to lead the country in both assists per game and points per game in a single season.

Clark registered five triple-doubles this season, leading the country in most career triple-doubles by an active player with six. Clark’s six career triple-doubles ties former Hawkeye Sam Logic’s Big Ten record (2011-15) for most in a career and ties for the fifth most single season (5) and career (6) triple-doubles in NCAA Division I history.

In January, Clark joined the likes of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, James Hardin, Luka Dončić and Giannis Antetokounmpo as the only NBA, WNBA, Division I men’s and women’s basketball to record back-to-back 30-point triple doubles since 2000. She is one of 10 women’s basketball players (15 times) to register back-to-back triple doubles in their careers — the only NCAA player (male or female) to do so with 30-plus points in the pair.

Clark broke the 1,000-career point barrier against Evansville in early January and became the fastest Division I player (men’s or women’s) to reach 1,500 career points over the last 20 seasons, reaching the feat in 56 games.

Clark set a career-high 46 points against No. 6 Michigan, registering her 12th double-double of the season with 10 assists and breaking her third women’s basketball arena scoring record. She now holds the scoring records at Iowa’s Carver-Hawkeye Arena (44), Michigan’s Crisler Center (46) and Nebraska’s Pinnacle Bank Arena (39).

Clark was named Big Ten Player of the Year and Big Ten Tournament MVP, while earning unanimous first team All-Big Ten honors and an All-Big Ten Tournament spot. She was named a Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year finalist, Dawn Staley Award finalist, Naismith semifinalist and to the WBCA Wade Trophy Midseason Watch List and John R. Wooden Award National Ballot Top-15. She is a 2021-22 first team AP All-American, USBWA All-American and first team CoSIDA Academic All-American.

The Watertown, Minnesota, native registered three double-doubles and averaged 21.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and shot 277-of-408 from the field, earning her an AP All-American Honorable Mention nod and WBCA All-Region honors. With Tyler Goodson getting ready for the NFL Daft a pair of redshirt freshmen have stepped in at running back at Iowa. Gavin Williams and LeShon Williams combined for 140 yards in a Citrus Bowl loss to Kentucky after Goodson opted out. Gavin led the way with 98 yards.

Williams says spring is a time to focus on individual improvement.

Sophomore receiver Arlan Bruce says Gavin and LeShon displayed their potential in the bowl game.

Bruce says after gaining some experience last season a young group of receivers should make progress.
