A reminder: A WIND CHILL WARNING continues until Noon today (1/16), for Cass-Adair-Adams-Audubon-Guthrie-Dallas-Madison-Sac-Crawford-Carroll-Union-Taylor and Ringgold Counties. Dangerously cold wind chills expected. The dangerously cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes to exposed skin. Expect wind chills to range from 15 below zero to 30 below zero.

And, a WIND CHILL ADVISORY continues until Noon today, for the remaining counties in the KJAN listening area. In the Advisory Area, very cold wind chills expected. The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. Expect wind chills to range from 18 below zero to 26 below zero.

WIND CHILL WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TUESDAY…THIS REPLACES THE WIND CHILL ADVISORY PREVIOUSLY IN EFFECT. A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until Noon Tuesday for all other counties in our area, not mentioned above.

* WHAT…Dangerously cold wind chills expected. Frostbite may occur in as little as 10 minutes to exposed skin. Expect wind chills to range from 20 below zero to 35 below zero.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Wind Chill Warning means the combination of very cold air and the wind will create dangerously low wind chill values. Frost bite can occur quickly and even hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.

Sunday’s High in Atlantic was 28. Our Low this morning was 1 degree. We received 1.4 inches of snow Sunday night, which melted into .06″liquid precipitation. Last year on this date our High was 35 and the Low was 28. The all-time record High in Atlantic on this date was 61 in 1990, and the Low was -23 in 1905.

Wind Chill Advisory for Cass & area Counties Monday morning through Tuesday morning

Dangerously Cold Wind Chills from Late Tonight through Tuesday Morning: Another Arctic intrusion will drop temperatures into the single digits and below from late tonight through Wednesday morning. Lows will approach 10 to 15 below zero at times across northern Iowa. Combine the cold temperatures with gusty 15 to 25 mph winds Monday into Tuesday and wind chills will be dangerous at times. Wind chill values in the 20 below to nearly 40 below zero range are expected.

WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM MONDAY TO NOON CST TUESDAY: The Advisory covers the entire KJAN listening area.

Tonight: Cloudy until early morning then becoming partly cloudy. Light snow likely in the evening, then a chance of light snow before midnight. Snow accumulation up to 1 inch. Low zero to 5 above. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph. Chance of snow 70 percent.
Martin Luther King Jr Day: Mostly sunny. Bitterly cold. Breezy. Patchy blowing snow early in the afternoon. High zero to 5 above. Northwest wind 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. Wind chill readings 15 to 20 below.
Monday Night: Partly cloudy. Colder. Low 5 to 10 below. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph. Wind chill readings 20 below to 30 below zero.

The All-time record High for Jan. 14th in Atlantic, was 54 in 1914. The All-time record Low was -29 in 1957.
