PHOENIX (AP) — NFC champion Seattle, Denver and Kansas City each were awarded four compensatory picks in this year’s draft. The NFL handed out 32 such picks to 14 teams on Monday. They begin at the conclusion of the third round when Super Bowl winner New England gets the 97th overall choice.
New England lost LeGarrette Blount, Dane Fletcher, Brandon Spikes and Aqib Talib in 2014 free agency, while adding Brandon Browner and Brandon LaFell. Blount returned to the Patriots after being cut by Pittsburgh.
A team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory picks. The draft will be held April 30-May 2 in Chicago.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — The spring training game between St. Louis and the Boston Red Sox Monday, was rained out with the Cardinals leading in the middle of the fifth inning.
With the game three outs shy of being official, rain started and the game was called after a 55-minute wait. There was standing water on the field when the decision was made not to continue. Cardinals starter Lance Lynn allowed one hit in four innings. Boston’s Rick Porcello gave up two runs and six hits in five innings.(backslash)
Burglary charges are pending against three University of Iowa wrestlers who were arrested last week. The Hawkeye wrestlers have been suspended from the team indefinitely as they were arrested last week on alcohol-related charges. Marion Police say the three young men will also like face burglary charges. At the time of their arrest, around 1 a.m. on March 18, they were in possession of several items believed to be taken from burglaries in the Marion area.
The suspects are identified as Ross Lembeck of Lisbon, Logan Ryan of Bettendorf and Seth Gross of Apple Valley, Minnesota. All three are 19-years-old and freshmen at the University of Iowa. They were all red-shirt competitors on the Hawkeye wrestling team this season.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A late season slide and the loss of its best player left Iowa with a lot of questions mark heading into 2014-15.
The Hawkeyes answered those doubts with a solid season that included their first NCAA Tournament win in 14 years.
Iowa (22-12), whose season ended with an 87-68 loss to second-seeded Gonzaga in Seattle on Sunday night, went 12-6 in the Big Ten and reached the NCAAs in back-to-back seasons for the first time in nine years.
It was also the season that saw senior Aaron White take his place among the great players in school history.
White made up for the absence of departed star Devyn Marble with one of the best seasons a Hawkeye has ever had.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An NCAA Tournament loss just a game shy of the Sweet 16 shouldn’t obscure what Northern Iowa accomplished this season.
The Panthers showed they can compete with any program in the country when everything falls into place.
During the season, the Panthers rolled past Iowa and reeled off 16 straight wins — including a thrashing of Wichita State — to put the program back in the national spotlight.
Northern Iowa (31-4) set a school record for wins, moved into the top 10 for the first time and won the Missouri Valley conference tournament before losing to Louisville on Sunday night.

SEATTLE (AP) – Rick Pitino and Louisville are heading to the Sweet 16 for the fourth straight year. Terry Rozier scored 25 points Sunday night to lift the fourth-seeded Cards to a 66-53 victory over fifth-seeded Northern Iowa in the NCAA Tournament. Montrezl Harrell added 14 for Louisville (26-8), including a couple of game-sealing alley-oop jams on passes from Rozier. The Cardinals will play eighth-seeded North Carolina State on Friday in an East Region that is now missing the top two seeds.
The Cardinals packed it in against Northern Iowa’s top scorer, Seth Tuttle, holding him to 14 points and only seven shot attempts. The Panthers (31-4) were trying for their first trip to the second weekend since 2010, but it didn’t happen. Instead, it’s Louisville now two wins away from its third Final Four since 2012.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — No wonder Kansas never wants anything to do with Wichita State. Behind another steady performance from Fred VanVleet and the hot shooting of Evan Wessel, the No. 7 seed Shockers rolled past the second-seeded Jayhawks 78-65 on Sunday, earning a trip to the Sweet 16 at the expense of the school that has caused them so much chagrin.
Tekele Cotton led the way with 19 points for the Shockers (30-4). VanVleet finished with 17 and Wessel hit four 3-pointers to score 12, sending the Missouri Valley champions to Cleveland for the Midwest Regional semifinal against third-seeded Notre Dame.
Devonte’ Graham and Perry Ellis had 17 points each, and Frank Mason added 16 for the Jayhawks (27-9), who blew an early eight-point lead and never really threatened in the second half.
