KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Tyrod Taylor threw for 183 yards and a touchdown in his return to the starting lineup, Tre’Davious White intercepted Alex Smith with just over a minute remaining, and the Buffalo Bills held off Kansas City Chiefs 16-10 on Sunday.

Zay Jones had the touchdown reception and Stephen Hauschka kicked three field goals for the Bills (6-5), but the story was their defense — or the Chiefs’ complete lack of offense. Kansas City (6-5) managed only 236 yards while losing for the fifth time in six games.

Smith threw for 199 yards and a touchdown, but even the Chiefs’ lone score came on a catch-and-run by Albert Wilson. They were unable to complete much downfield, and with a ground game going nowhere, the offense was soundly booed most of the game. Especially when White stepped in front of Smith’s pass with 1:11 remaining and the Chiefs at the Buffalo 35. White nearly returned it for a clinching touchdown before Smith finally tracked him down.

The Chiefs’ offense was dismal in the first half against a defense that had surrendered more than 210 yards per game rushing the past three outings. Kansas City went three-and-out on its first five possessions and, taking away 14 yards of quarterback scrambling, gained 43 yards by the break. The Bills fared marginally better. Chiefs K Harrison Butker connected from 45 yards late in the first half, giving him a franchise-record 23 straight field-goal conversions. Butker hasn’t missed since his first attempt with Kansas City.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Skylar Thompson scrambled from pressure and threw a touchdown pass to Isaiah Zuber on the final play of the game, giving Kansas State a stunning 20-19 victory over Iowa State. The Wildcats trailed 19-7 in the fourth quarter before two late touchdowns.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Eli Dunne threw for 260 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions, Nikholi Jaghai caught two of Northern Iowa’s four interceptions, and the Panthers cruised past Monmouth 46-7 in the first round of the FCS playoffs. Northern Iowa (8-4) had no turnovers and outgained the Hawks 520-202 to advance to a second-round matchup against fifth-seeded South Dakota State next Saturday. Monmouth (9-3) was scoreless until Kenji Bahar’s 19-yard TD pass to Lonnie Moore made it 46-7 in the fourth.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Freshman Lindell Wigginton scored a career-high 21 points and Iowa State cruised past Western Illinois 70-45 for its fourth consecutive win. Fellow freshman Cameron Lard also notched a career-best with 14 points and rookie Terrence Lewis had 12 in 13 minutes _ topping his career total for scoring _ as the Cyclones outscored the Leathernecks 41-20 in the second half.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Martin Krampelj scored 20 points and Creighton rolled to a 103-66 victory over SIU-Edwardsville. Krampelj made 9 of 10 field goals.

NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Chace Franklin scored 22 points, including the winning 3-pointer with nine seconds left in overtime, and Jackson State edged Omaha 75-73 in their final game at the Emerald Coast Classic. Franklin’s basket and the Mavericks’ inability to get up a final shot capped a wild game where there 11 ties, 18 lead changes and neither team led by more than six points.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Kennedy Burke had 17 points and six rebounds to lead No. 5 UCLA over Creighton 72-63 in the Las Vegas Shootout.

Freshman Alexis Sevillian came off the bench for the first time in five outings and led the University of Iowa women’s basketball team with 21 points Saturday, during a 74-61 victory over previously unbeaten Elon (5-1). According to HawkeyeSports.Com,  it was the third and final game for the Hawkeyes at the Puerto Rico Challenge at Cardinal Gibbons High School. Iowa finished 3-0 in the tournament and starts a season with seven straight wins for the first time since 2010.

The Hawkeyes led 33-23 at halftime, holding Elon to eight points in the first quarter and 15 in the second. Both teams had 14 boards in the first half; Elon finished the game with a 48-47 edge. The Phoenix pulled down 24 offensive rebounds.

Iowa sophomore Kathleen Doyle returned to the starting lineup, allowing Sevillian to provide a boost off the bench. She made 7 of 11 field goals and 5 of 6 from 3-point range in 23 minutes. Doyle had a game-high seven assists. Junior center Megan Gustafson made 10 of 16 field goals and finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds. She had nine offensive boards.

Senior Chase Coley scored 13 points and junior Hannah Stewart grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. After shooting 39 percent from the field through three quarters, the Hawkeyes finished by making 10 of 15 field goals in the fourth quarter. They shot 45 percent for the game (31 of 69).

Iowa has now defeated three teams that were in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. After winning three games in the state of Florida, the undefeated Hawkeyes return to Carver-Hawkeye Arena to host Florida State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 29. Tip-off is 7 p.m. (CT)

Thompson threw for 152 yards, none bigger than the one yard that he needed on the final play. The freshman quarterback took the snap with 11 seconds left, rolled to his left, then headed back to his right as the Cyclones gave chase and zipped a dart to Zuber for the touchdown.

The 10-play, 87-yard drive took every second of the 1 minute, 55 seconds left in the game. The Wildcats (7-5, 5-4 Big 12) rallied from a 19-7 fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Cyclones (7-5, 5-4) for the 10th straight time. They also likely improved their bowl destination with the win.

Kyle Kempt threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns for Iowa State, but he was unable to complete a pass on third-and-6 at the Kansas State 49 that would have allowed his team to put the game away. The game lived up to its “Farmageddon” nickname: Two old-school, ground-and-pound teams going at it, a slobber-knocker reminiscent of when these teams met in the old Big Eight days.

Iowa State wrapped up the season losing three of its last four games, though the seven wins was a big step in the right direction. UP NEXT: Iowa State awaits its first bowl bid since the 2012 Liberty Bowl.

Newly signed cornerback Darrelle Revis could be active for the first time this season. He was signed Wednesday but is familiar enough with the Kansas City defense that he could play against the Bills.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have arrested an Iowa State football player accused of vandalism at a skate park in Ames. The Des Moines Register reports that cornerback Brian Peavy has been charged with criminal mischief. Court records don’t list an attorney for him. A team spokesman says he expects Peavy will play Saturday when the Cyclones take on Kansas State in Manhattan.

The Huskers (4-8, 3-6) lost four straight to end the season, finished with their fewest wins since 1961 and lost five home games for the first time since 1957. Iowa finished with a season-high 505 total yards and put the game away in the third quarter, scoring 28 points and outgaining Nebraska 209-69. The outburst came after the Hawkeyes were held to just 66 yards by Wisconsin and 258 by Purdue. Iowa has won three straight against Nebraska but still will lose five games in a season for the seventh time in eight years. The Huskers allowed five opponents to score more than 40 points, and they became the second team in program history to give up more than 400 in a season. Nebraska allowed at least 199 yards rushing in the last seven games.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs linebackers Dee Ford and Terrance Smith have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against Buffalo, while newly signed cornerback Darrelle Revis could be active for the first time this season.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said after Friday’s final practice that Revis, who signed a two-year deal on Wednesday, moved around well in practice. Reid said it was clear the seven-time Pro Bowl pick has been out for a while, but “he looked good moving around.”

The Chiefs are hopeful Revis can start opposite Marcus Peters once he’s up to speed. Ford is out again with a back injury, while Smith is out with a concussion. But it appears wide receiver Albert Wilson will be available for the first time in weeks after a hamstring injury.
