CINCINNATI (AP) — Carlos Martinez’s changeup was too much for the reeling Reds.
The St. Louis right-hander struck out a season-high 11 in seven shutout innings and Harrison Bader’s two-run home run helped the Cardinals complete their first four-game sweep in Cincinnati since 1949 with a 3-2 win on Sunday.
After waiting through a rain delay of 2 hours, 36 minutes, Martinez allowed two hits and four walks while helping send the Reds to their eighth consecutive loss, one short of matching their longest losing streak of last season.
The Reds scored 10 runs in the series while being swept in four games at home by St. Louis for the first time since July 8-10, 1949.
The Reds haven’t enjoyed a lead in 32 innings, going back to the fourth inning on Thursday. They are 2-13 overall this season for the first time since the 1931 Reds won two of their first 19 games.
Bud Norris allowed Adam Duvall’s ninth-inning leadoff homer and the Reds got a runner to second with nobody out. Norris struck out Alex Blandino and Phillip Ervin and got Billy Hamilton to line out to clinch his third save.
The Cardinals have won five of their past six games.

Highly sought after Lewis Central Quarterback Max Duggan announced his commitment on Sunday night. Duggan has chosen to continue his football and academic career at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
Duggan will now enter his senior season with his college decision made. He has been the Titans starting quarterback since his freshman year and has led the Titans to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs two of the past three seasons in Class 4A. The Titans will be back in Class 3A for his senior season.
Duggan is rated as the top prospect in the state by all the major recruiting outlets and he had over 20 offers from Division I schools on the table. Many reports stated that the decision came down to a choice between TCU and Minnesota.
Glenwood 7, Shenandoah 6.
This was originally a four team tournament that was moved inside to the Montgomery County YMCA with just Glenwood and Shenandoah competing. Each team earned two singles and two doubles wins but the victories were weighted by type and Glenwood racked up more points for the overall victory.
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Reds are off to their worst start since the Great Depression. Greg Garcia hit a pair of homers for the first time in his career, sending St. Louis to a 6-1 victory. Cincinnati fell to 2-12, its worst 14-game start since 1931.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri had one of the top offenses in college football during the second half of last season. With new offensive coordinator Derek Dooley and quarterback Drew Lock back, the Tigers seek to improve on last season’s high-powered look this spring.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team dropped a doubleheader to Minnesota on Friday afternoon at Pearl Field, suffering a 6-2 decision in game one in nine innings, and an 11-1 run-rule decision in game two.
Minnesota completed the sweep after notching an 8-0 run-rule victory over the Hawkeyes on Thursday.
LINCOLN, Neb. — The University of Iowa baseball team split a doubleheader at Nebraska on Friday at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. The Hawkeyes posted a 7-1 victory in game one before the Cornhuskers evened the series with a 10-4 win in game two.
The doubleheader split sees Iowa sit at 21-11 overall and 6-4 in Big Ten play. The rubber game of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) Sunday — weather permitting — and it will be televised on ESPNU.

Junior Nick Allgeyer went seven strong inning, allowing one unearned run and fanning four to lead the Hawkeyes to a 7-1 victory in the opening game of Friday’s doubleheader.
After allowing one unearned run on two hits in the first, Allgeyer (4-3) surrendered just three hits over the next six innings to record his fourth victory of the season.
Iowa’s offense finished with 10 hits in the contest and scored the game’s final seven runs. Sophomore Justin Jenkins drew a two-out walk in the second before sophomore Ben Norman followed with a single to right field. Jenkins tied the game, scoring off a wild pitch.
GAME 2 | Nebraska 10, Iowa 3
Nebraska’s offense awoke to the tune of 10 runs on 10 hits and three Husker pitchers limited Iowa to five hits in game two — a 10-3 Husker victory.
Iowa grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first when junior Robert Neustrom hit a one-out home run to right center field — his sixth home run of the season. Nebraska answered with a pair of two-run home runs from Jesse Wilkening and Angelo Altavilla in the third to knock Iowa starter Brady Schanuel from the game.
After Iowa closed the gap to 4-3 on a two-run home run from Tyler Cropley in the fourth, it was all Nebraska. The Huskers scored one in the fifth, four in the seventh, and one in the eighth, roughing up the Hawkeye bullpen.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Yadier Molina heard the boos again. Then he came through again, sending the Cincinnati Reds to their lowest point since 1955.
Molina homered and drove in three runs Friday night, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-3 victory that deepened the Reds’ opening slump and added to his legacy against them.
The catcher has gotten booed loudly at Great American Ball Park — even during the 2015 All-Star Game — by fans who haven’t forgotten his scuffle with Brandon Phillips in 2010. They boo louder every time he delivers another game-turning hit.
He’s still got the touch.
“Yadi continues to just get better,” manager Mike Matheny said.
St. Louis came into the series with a stagnant offense but broke out during two games against the worst pitching staff in the majors, piling up 18 runs and 25 hits. Molina has homered in each game, giving him a team-high five this season.
Molina’s 21 career homers against the Reds are his most against any team.
The Reds lost their sixth in a row and have the worst record in the majors at 2-11. They also lost 11 of their first 13 games in 1955. Another loss on Saturday would produce their worst start since 1931.

Cardinals: Miles Mikolas (1-0) faced the Reds in 2012 and 2013 as a Padres reliever. He has yielded eight runs in 12 innings in his two starts for the Cardinals.
Reds: Left-hander Brandon Finnegan is expected to come off the DL and make his first start of the season. He strained his left biceps during spring training.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Albert Pujols homered and drove in three runs, Ian Kinsler had three hits and a sacrifice fly that scored Shohei Ohtani with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and the Los Angeles Angels rallied to beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4. The Angels have won six straight and nine of 10. Blake Wood (1-0) worked a spotless seventh to pick up the victory. Keynan Middleton pitched the ninth for his third save in as many opportunities.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Outfielder Tarik El-Abour, who was diagnosed with autism at age 3 and did not speak until he was 6, signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals on Autism Awareness Day. El-Abour was assigned to the Royals’ extended spring training in Surprise, Arizona, and will open with one of Kansas City’s three rookie league clubs, which all start their seasons in June. The 25-year-old El-Abour has played in the independent Empire League, where he was named rookie of the year in 2016.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska quarterback Patrick O’Brien plans to transfer. Former coach Mike Riley recruited O’Brien to play in a pro-style offense. New coach Scott Frost has brought his spread-option offense with him from Central Florida. O’Brien played in three games as backup to Tanner Lee last season.
