Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Creighton basketball player Martin Krampelj is coming back this season after coming back from a third torn anterior cruciate ligament. He tore the ACL in his left knee for the second time when he stepped on a teammate’s foot in a game last January. He also has torn the ACL in his right knee. Krampelj says he never had a doubt he would return from his latest injury. The Bluejays need his presence on the inside after losing four of its top six scorers from last season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have placed offensive lineman Jordan Devey and linebacker Terrance Smith on injured reserve as part of a series of roster moves. The Chiefs also promoted center James Murray and tight end Deon Yelder to the 53-man roster and signed offensive tackle Pace Murphy and linebacker Raymond Davison to the practice squad.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — No. 18 Iowa is on the current list of one-loss playoff dark horses. The Hawkeyes are 6-1. They followed a last-minute loss to Wisconsin by winning three in a row by an average of 22 points. Iowa heads to No. 17 Penn State on Saturday in search of a season-defining victory.

UNDATED (AP) — Iowa State is fresh off a much-needed bye week and seemingly set up for a strong finish after a 3-3 start. The biggest reason for the optimism is a defense playing as well as any in the Big 12. Iowa State has held each of its six opponents below their season average in points scored. The Cyclones will face a big challenge at home Saturday against Texas Tech, one of the top offenses in the nation.

Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Kansas starts the 2018-19 season as the No. 1-ranked team in The Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll. The Jayhawks earned 37 of 65 first-place votes in results released Monday. Kentucky checks in at No. 2, followed by Gonzaga, Duke and Virginia to round out the top 5. The Atlantic Coast Conference has seven teams ranked in the poll, the most of any conference. The Southeastern Conference has five.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An investigator who helped uncover the sexual exploitation of 400 boys by an Iowa basketball coach says victims can still come forward to share their information. Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agent Ryan Kedley says state and federal investigators have attempted to contact all 400 known victims of former Iowa Barnstormers Coach Greg Stephen, which he called a massive undertaking. But he says some individuals who were victimized haven’t been identified or contacted.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have not only survived what is probably their toughest stretch this season, they have downright thrived. Their blowout win over Cincinnati on Sunday night left them at 6-1 and in firm control of the AFC West, not to mention the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. And with an easier nine-game stretch ahead, there is a good chance they hold onto it.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Getting that first win of the season left Nebraska hungry for more. The Cornhuskers aren’t complaining about playing again this week instead of having the open date that originally was on the schedule. Bethune-Cookman of the Football Championship Subdivision will play at Nebraska on Saturday. The Huskers were supposed to play Akron in the opener, but the game was canceled because of inclement weather.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — TCU coach Gary Patterson says sophomore quarterback Shawn Robinson will have surgery and Michael Collins will be the starter. Patterson did not discuss details, but the decision comes more than three weeks after Robinson took a hit on his non-throwing left shoulder in a 17-14 win over Iowa State. Robinson played the next game, but Collins replaced him after three series against Oklahoma. TCU plays at Kansas on Saturday.

CAM holds off Glidden-Ralston to move to Regional Semifinal

Sports

October 22nd, 2018 by admin

The CAM Cougars volleyball team held off the Glidden-Ralston Wildcats 3-1 on Monday night to move on to the Class 1A Region 3 Semifinals. CAM raced out to an early two set lead by taking the opener 25-22 and the second 25-15.

Serve receive and passing were a sore spot in the third set and allowed Glidden-Ralston to use an early runs of 4 and 6 points to grab a lead they would hang on to. The Wildcats took the third 25-23 to send it to a fourth.

The Cougars took control late in the fourth set to run away with a 25-16 set win and take the match. The Cougars scored 14 of the final 19 points to secure the win.

The Cougars got strong play from seniors Madison Gettler, Shelby Stephenson, and Sydney Aupperle in the win. The Cougars improved to 26-9 on the season and will now face Ar-We-Va in the Regional Semifinal on Thursday night in Audubon at 7:00pm. The Cougars have been able to beat the Rockets three times this season already but the last two were tight matches in the conference tournament. We’ll have coverage of that match on Thursday night on KJAN.

Glidden-Ralston’s season ends with a record of 13-10.

Listen to a post-match interview with CAM Head Coach Craig Fredin below.
