UNDATED (AP) — The NFL’s highest-scoring offenses face off in the conference championships next Sunday. Tom Brady leads the New England Patriots into Kansas City to take on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, and Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints host Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jordan Lucas and Charvarius Ward were relatively unknown role players when they were acquired by the Kansas City Chiefs in August. Now, the duo has the Chiefs playing in their first AFC title game in 25 years. Lucas has turned into a dependable safety, and Ward has become the kind of solid cornerback they’ve been missing all season.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Phil Booth scored 19 of his 28 points after halftime to ignite Villanova’s surge as the Wildcats came from behind again to beat Creighton 90-78. Booth made all four of his 3-pointers in the second half and scored eight straight points early in a 26-6 spurt that turned Villanova’s 47-38 deficit into a 64-53 lead with 9 ½ minutes left.

Berhow hit a 3-pointer with 6:18 remaining to put the Panthers ahead 55-52. Nick McGlynn, who led the Bulldogs with 15 points, scored with 5:40 left to make it a one-point game. Neither team scored from that point until Spencer Halderman made two free throws with 5.2 seconds left.

All Drake could get at the end was a tightly contested 3-point shot attempt at the buzzer. Down the stretch, Northern Iowa (7-10, 2-2 Missouri Valley Conference) missed five shots, the front end of a pair of one-and-one free-throw attempts and committed two turnovers. Drake (12-5, 1-3) missed eight shots and had two turnovers.

Both teams shot below 40 percent for the game. Northern Iowa led 29-23 at the half and pushed the lead to 11 2½ minutes into the second half.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Jeff Allen thanked the man who helped pull his vehicle out of the snow with tickets to next week’s AFC Championship game. Allen said he got stuck on the way to Arrowhead Stadium in Saturday because of the snow, but he made it in time for the Chief’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts because of the Good Samaritan.

The man who helped Allen didn’t know he was a Chiefs player at the time. Allen turned to Twitter to track down the man who helped him because he lost his phone number, but within a few hours they connected on Sunday morning.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head men’s basketball coach Steve Prohm announced today that junior forward Solomon Young will miss the remainder of the 2018-19 season as he continues to recover from a groin injury suffered in October.

A native of Sacramento, Calif., Young was determined to come back at full strength after the surgery. However, the timing of the injury made it difficult for Young to get back to competitive form at this point of the schedule.

He played in four games, making his debut Dec. 21 against Eastern Illinois. Young played 6.8 minutes per game and averaged 1.8 points before electing to seek a medical redshirt.

“Solomon and I have recently had talks about his recovery from the injury he suffered in preseason practice, and after consulting with our medical staff, he has decided that it is in his best interest to pursue a medical redshirt this season,” Prohm said. “Solomon and our medical staff worked extremely hard to get him back on the court this season, but in the end Solomon isn’t comfortable with where he is at physically and we support him.

“I’m confident that his teammates will come together and that Solomon will play a major role as a leader this season.”

Young, who has 38 starts in his career, most recently played 11 minutes off the bench for the Cyclones at Baylor, scoring two points.

“This isn’t a decision that can be made over night. I’ve come across some tough decisions in my life, but I can’t think of any tougher than this,” Young said. “I put my heart and soul out on the court. I’ve pushed myself to many limits that have helped and hurt me. I play for my teammates, I play for everyone who believes and supports me. I love Iowa State and wish I could be out there doing everything I can to win.

“I never thought I would have to deal with the obstacles I’ve had in my time here. But I’m grateful to have a supporting cast around me for those tough times and this one now. I believe I need to take this time to finally get 100 percent so I can help max out this program and max myself out. Thank you, Cyclone Nation.”

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Luka Garza scored 16 points, Tyler Cook had 15 points with eight rebounds and Iowa rolled past No. 16 Ohio State 72-62. This was the Buckeyes’ third straight loss. Ryan Kriener scored 11 points for the Hawkeyes, who have won three straight after a 0-3 start to league play.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Barry Brown hit a layup with four seconds left and Kansas State stunned No. 20 Iowa State 58-57, handing the Cyclones their second straight loss. Brown had 23 points to lead the Wildcats. Iowa State closed the game on a 10-2 run for its first road win of the year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs romped to a 31-13 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, and now turn their attention toward their first AFC title game in 25 years. They will face the winner of Sunday’s game between the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots next weekend at Arrowhead Stadium. It will be the first AFC title game Kansas City has ever hosted.

The first-year starter was solid through the air, scored a touchdown on the ground and proved unflappable in a 31-13 victory that sent Kansas City to the AFC title game.

(AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid was summoned to the corner of Arrowhead Stadium during the playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts to get fans to stop throwing snowballs on the field. Reid’s intervention didn’t do much good, either. Patrick Mahomes scampered in moments later to give the Colts a 24-7 lead, and snowballs fell like confetti from the upper deck.

WACO, Texas (AP) — Lagerald Vick scored 18 points with six 3-pointers on his 22nd birthday and No. 7 Kansas held on for a 73-68 win at Baylor. Vick hit two of his 3s in an 11-3 run in the final 1:44 of the first half for the Jayhawks to put them up by 10. Kansas then held a double-digit lead for most of the second half until the Bears had eight consecutive points in the final minute.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes picked apart the Colts in his postseason debut, the Chiefs defense answered their chorus of critics with a stout performance, and Kansas City rolled to a 31-13 victory over Indianapolis in the divisional round Saturday to end 25 years of playoff frustration.
Mahomes threw for 278 yards while running for a touchdown, and Damien Williams ran for 129 yards and another score, as the Chiefs beat Indianapolis for the first time in five playoff meetings to earn their first AFC title game appearance since January 1994.

The AFC West champions will play the winner of Sunday’s game between the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers and the New England Patriots next weekend for a spot in the Super Bowl in Atlanta. Andrew Luck was held to 203 yards passing for the Colts, while Marlon Mack was a non-factor on the ground. He had 46 yards rushing before leaving late in the fourth quarter with a hip injury.
