ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals will remain on their longtime radio flagship station through at least 2024, and with the same team of announcers. Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The Big 12 has seen plenty of upsets and close games this season. Parity makes for fierce competition and games that are fun to watch. It also presents a quandary about the league’s chances of making the College Football Playoff.

UNDATED (AP) — Everyone hopes the playing surface at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium will not be the main story of Monday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers. Coaches Andy Reid and Anthony Lynn said they have received favorable updates about the turf going into the game. Last year’s game between the Chiefs and Rams was moved back to Los Angeles less than a week before the game when the field was deemed unplayable due to rain and the stadium hosting concerts before the game.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Attorneys for the family of a 19-year-old football player who died of heatstroke after conditioning practice at a Kansas community college says they plan to sue the school, unless it wants to discuss a settlement. Attorney Chris Dove spoke Thursday after the college released a scathing independent report on Garden City Community College’s conduct the day Braeden Bradforth died. Dove calls it a damning investigation.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas coach Bill Self knew it was important to fill the majority of his upcoming recruiting class during the early signing period, given the uncertainty that surrounds the Jayhawks when it comes to potential NCAA violations. The school was hit with a series of allegations earlier this year, the majority of them tied to recruiting violations, and Self was personally fingered for supposedly failing to monitor the program.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Markquis Nowell had 20 points as Arkansas-Little Rock defeated Southwest Baptist 77-59. Ben Coupet Jr. had 18 points and seven rebounds for Arkansas-Little Rock.

Audubon earns trip to 8-Man title game with win over Remsen, St. Mary’s

November 14th, 2019 by admin

The Audubon Wheelers avenged their only loss of the regular season with a 38-29 win over Remsen, St. Mary’s in the 8-Man Semifinals on Thursday. The Wheelers lost a 25-26 battle against the Hawks in Week 1, but a strong ground attack gave the Wheelers the victory this time.

The Wheelers scored on their first possession of the game and a back and forth battle ensued for a good chunk of the first half. Blaine Harpenau’s third touchdown run of the first half put the Hawks ahead 22-20 with 9:37 left in the half. The Wheelers answered with a 5 play 63 yard drive, capped off by a Skyler Schultes 29-yard touchdown run to put the Wheelers ahead 26-22 and that was the score at the half.

The Wheelers then took control in the second half. They forced a punt on Remsen’s first possession, gave it back on a fumble 3 plays later.  A fourth down pass attempt for the Hawks was ruled knocked away by Gavin Smith in the end zone. Two plays later Skyler Schultes ripped off a 55 yard touchdown run. The Wheelers would score again after a Kaiden Smith interception to lead 39-22. The Hawks got one more score before the Wheelers ground out the clock.

Skyler Schultes ran for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead the Wheelers. Audubon outgained Remsen, St. Mary’s 357 to 284 in total offense.

Audubon improves to 12-1 on the season and will play for the 8-Man State Championship next Thursday against Don Bosco. The Dons won the first Semifinal game on Thursday 50-6 over Turkey Valley.
