Wisconsin beats Iowa in overtime

The Wisconsin Badgers went to overtime to take down the Iowa Hawkeyes 78-75 on Sunday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.

Grant Wahl had 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists to lead the Badgers to the big road win. Wisconsin is now 8-2 on the season.

Iowa was led by 24 points from Patrick McCaffery and 17 each from Tony Perkins and Connor McCaffery. The Hawkeyes fall to 7-3 on the year.

Next up for Iowa is a home game next Saturday against Southeast Missouri State.

Iowa State men roll past McNeese State

The Iowa State men’s basketball team outscored McNeese State 44-16 in the second half and rolled to a 77-40 win on Sunday at Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones were led by 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists from Jaz Kunc and 17 points from Jaren Holmes.

Iowa State improves to 8-2 on the season and will have a week hiatus until hosting Western Michigan next Sunday.

Creighton women edge Drake 75-71

The Creighton women’s basketball team edged out the Drake Bulldogs 75-71 on Saturday. The Bluejays built a 17-point lead through the first three quarters and held on for the win. The Bulldogs rallied in the fourth outscoring the Jays 28-15 but still fell short.

Maggie Baer led Drake with 26 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs fall to 5-3 on the season.

Crieghton was led by 24 points and 6 boards from Morgan Maly. The Jays are now 8-1.

Duggan voted Heisman runner-up

Lewis Central alum Max Duggan finished has the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in New York City. The TCU quarterback finished with 188 first-place votes and finished behind USC quarterback Caleb Williams who finished with 544 first place votes in the balloting.

Duggan has led the Horned Frogs to a 12-1 record this season and fell in overtime to K-State in the Big 12 Championship Game. TCU made the College Football Playoff and will face Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl on December 31st.

Duggan has thrown for 3,321 yards, 30 touchdowns, and just 4 interceptions in his senior season. He also has 404 yards and 6 touchdowns rushing this season.

Creston wins Riverside Invitational

The Creston Panthers boys wrestling team rolled to the team title at the Riverside Invitatioanal on Saturday with 227 points. The Panthers got individual titles from Christian Ahrens (120) and Brandon Briley (138).

Logan-Magnolia was third in the team race. Corbin Reisz (126) and Wyatt Reisz (160) were champions for the Panthers.

Harlan was 4th in the team race and got a title from Zane Bendorf at 195.

Riverside’s Davis Bramman won at 106 and AHSTW’s Henry Lund was a winner at 220.

Atlantic with 5 top-ten finishes at CB Wrestling Classic

The Council Bluffs Wrestling Classic wrapped up on Saturday at the Mid-America Center. Atlantic had five wrestlers end up with top-ten finishes in the 41 team field. The Trojans placed 23rd in the team race with 186.5 points. Millard South won the championship with 564.5 points on the weekend.

Taye Jordan was 10th at 106, Aiden Smith was 6th at 113, Easton O’Brien placed 9th at 145, Brenden Casey was 8th at 195, and Evan Sorensen was 6th at 285.

Glenwood finished 10th in the team race with 250.5 points. Matt Beem was 3rd at 132. Tate Mayberry was 2nd at 152 for the Rams. CJ Carter went 3rd at 195.

Gable Porter of Underwood was the champion at 132.

In the girls side of the tournament Sophie Barnes of Lewis Central was the champion at 125 and her teammates Mahri Manz 140 and Espie Almazan 145 were also winners. Washburn, MO won the girls team title with 648 points. Lewis Central was runner-up with 433.5.

 

Atlantic boys swimming competes at Marshalltown

Trojan LogoThe Atlantic boy swimming team competed at the Marshalltown Bobcat Invite on Saturday and finished 5th with 36 points.

Alex Lihs and Keaton Rieken teamed up for third place finishes in both the 2x200M Freestyle Relay and the 2x100M Freestyle Relay.

UNI loses close one to McNeese State

UNI dropped a 52-49 contest to McNeese State on Friday night in Cedar Falls. The Panthers shot a measly 29% from the field and fall to 3-6 on the season.

Trey Campbell posted 17 points for the Panthers, he hit five threes in the game. Michael Duax had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Next up for the Panthers is a home game against South Florida on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
