CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Aaron Bailey threw for two touchdowns and ran for three more as Northern Iowa defeated Southern Illinois 49-28 on Saturday night. Bailey had 181 yards passing and 131 yards rushing for the Panthers (7-4, 5-3 Missouri Valley Conference). Tyvis Smith ran for 166 yards and a score on 23 carries.

Smith ran for a 51-yard score and Bailey hit Michael Malloy from 49 yards for another and Northern Iowa led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter on its way to a 28-7 advantage at the break. In the third quarter, Bailey took the Panthers 91 yards in 10 plays to score on a 21-yard pass to Daurice Fountain, extending their lead to 35-21 with 9:56 left in the period. Six minutes later, he ran it in himself from 25 yards to make it 42-28.

Mark Iannotti finished with 264 yards and two touchdowns for the Salukis (3-8, 2-6).

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) – Jack Cantele kicked a 42-yard field goal with three seconds left to cap Kansas State’s 38-35 come-from-behind victory over Iowa State on Saturday.  Kansas State (4-6, 1-6 Big 12 Conference) recovered three Iowa State (3-8, 2-6) fumbles in the final seven minutes and rallied from a 35-14 first-half deficit.

Charles Jones ran for a 5-yard touchdown to tie it at 35 with 42 seconds following two Iowa State turnovers. Marquel Bryant then sacked and forced a Joel Lanning fumble. It was recovered by Charmeachealle Moore on the Cyclone 25 to set up Cantele’s game-winner two plays later.

Joe Hubener had 216 yards passing and a touchdown to lead Kansas State, who needed the win to stay bowl eligible. Lanning threw for 195 yards and three touchdown passes, two to Allen Lazard in the first half. Mike Warren ran for 195 yards with a 76-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Kansas State has won eight straight against the Cyclones.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — C.J. Beathard threw three touchdown passes and No. 6 Iowa clinched a share of the Big Ten West title and a spot in the league championship game with a 40-20 win over Purdue on Saturday. LeShun Daniels Jr. ran for two TDs for the Hawkeyes (11-0, 7-0 Big Ten, No. 5 CFP), who’ll play at Nebraska next week in search of their first 12-0 regular season.

Iowa let Purdue get within 20-13 in the third quarter. But Beathard’s 22-yard TD pass to Henry Krieger-Coble with 8:40 left sealed yet another victory for the Hawkeyes. Austin Appleby had 259 yards passing to lead Purdue (2-9, 1-6), which will play for the Old Oaken Bucket next week against Indiana.

Iowa Hawkeye football fans attending today’s (Saturday) game are being reminded about security changes for entry into Kinnick Stadium. David Visin is the University of Iowa’s interim security director. “The major difference is if you plan to bring a purse or a bag that was normally allowed in the stadium, we are prohibiting that for this game,” Visin said. Tighter security measures have been implemented at many venues around the country after the terrorist attacks in Paris.

“You should bring your items in a gallon-sized ziplock bag or we will allow a small, hand-size, clutch purse for other items as well. But, all those items will be searched, no matter what,” Visin said. Fans will notice an increased law enforcement presence, both inside the stadium and in tailgating areas, according to Visin. This is the final home football game for Iowa this season. The Hawkeyes face Purdue, with kickoff at 11 a.m.Pre-game coverage begins at 9-a.m on KJAN.

In Cedar Falls, the University of Northern Iowa has a sold out basketball game at the McLeod Center with North Carolina at 1 p.m., followed by a football game with Southern Illinois in the UNI-Dome. U-N-I Public Safety Director Helen Haire says there will be an increased number of law enforcement personnel on hand. She says UNI routinely searches bags at these events and that practice will continue today.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — An offensive line coach at the Northern Iowa has been suspended after he was suspected of driving while intoxicated. The university’s athletics department said Friday that Ben Barkema was suspended indefinitely from all team-related activities following an arrest Thursday night on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Additional information about the arrest was not available. The university says it will have no further comment. Barkema’s hiring was announced in March. His suspension comes on the eve of the Panthers’ regular-season finale against Southern Illinois.

NEW YORK (AP) — The champion Kansas City Royals will host the New York Mets in a World Series rematch when the 2016 Major League Baseball season starts in April with three Sunday openers. Next year’s schedule also includes two games in Puerto Rico between Pittsburgh and Miami. MLB made the announcement Thursday. The St. Louis Cardinals will visit Pittsburgh in the first game of the year.

The Pirates and Marlins will play May 30-31 in San Juan. They will celebrate Roberto Clemente Day, a league-wide tribute honoring the late Pirates Hall of Famer who was born and raised on the island. The matchup at Hiram Bithorn Stadium will count as Marlins’ home games. They will be MLB’s first games in Puerto Rico since the Marlins and Mets played in 2010.

The season starts April 3 with three games: Cardinals at Pirates, followed by Toronto at Tampa Bay and then the Mets visiting Kansas City at night. For the second straight year, all games played on the last day of the season — Oct. 2 — will start at approximately 3 p.m. EDT.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Fran McCaffrey won his 350th career game and Peter Jok scored 20 points to lead six players in double figures as Iowa cruised past Marquette 89-61 Thursday night. Jarrod Uthoff scored 15 points, Anthony Clemmons 11, Mike Gesell 11, Adam Woodbury 10 and Dom Uhl 10 for Iowa (3-0).

McCaffery (350-252) also won his 99th at Iowa (99-75) in his sixth season since being named head coach in 2010. He’s won 20-plus games the previous three seasons, Iowa’s longest streak in 15 years, and taken the Hawkeyes to the NCAA Tourney the last two.

Trailing 48-21 at halftime, Marquette (1-2) scored the first eight points of the second half and pulled to 48-29, but Iowa countered with its own 8-0 run. Woodbury started it with a 14-foot jump shot and Uthoff’s basket ended it as Iowa led 57-29. Marquette never challenged the rest of the way.
