Iowa State guard Nick Weiler-Babb will miss Wednesday’s game against West Virginia. Cyclone coach Steve Prohm says Weiler-Babb tweaked a knee injury that has bothered him all season in Saturday’s loss to Tennessee. Prohm says Lindell Wigginton and Donovan Jackson will share the point guard duties.

The Cyclones are 11-9 overall.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals acquired right-handers Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer from the Oakland A’s for left-hander Ryan Buchter, designated hitter Brandon Moss and cash considerations. The Royals freed up about $5 million in salary that they could use to sign some of their free agents, including first baseman Eric Hosmer.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have signed Alcides Escobar to a $2.5 million contract for next season, keeping their longtime shortstop on the roster after reaching free agency this offseason. The sides agreed to the framework of a deal last week, but it wasn’t announced until Monday.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — James Palmer Jr. scored 28 points and keyed a second-half comeback, as Nebraska rallied for a 74-63 victory over Wisconsin. The Cornhuskers trailed by double digits midway through the second half but held the Badgers to just eight points over the final nine minutes to extend their winning streak to three games.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have announced the retirement of assistant head coach Brad Childress and promoted Mike Kafka to quarterbacks coach as part of a series of changes to coach Andy Reid’s staff. The 61-year-old Childress was head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2006-10. Longtime assistant Tommy Brasher, who had spent the past year working on special projects, also announced his retirement in a statement. Brasher spent more than 50 years in coaching.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Missouri State is investigating after two men’s basketball players were injured following a low-temperature cryotherapy treatment. The Springfield News-Leader reports that Reggie Scurry and Abdul Fofana developed foot blisters after last week’s treatment. Coach Paul Lusk says the two would probably be out for a couple of weeks. The athletic director says the school won’t be trying it again.

Audubon Wheeler Invitational

Missouri Valley had seven champions on their way to the title. Logan-Magnolia had the six other champions at the tourney.

Underwood’s Alex Thomsen was a champion at 126 and Logan James won the 132 pound title for the Eagles. AHSTW’s Gabe Pauley stayed unbeaten on the season and took the 170 pound title. Coon Rapids-Bayard’s Dalton Arnold won at 220. Tri-Center’s Connor Atkisson was a champ at 106.

East Mills Tournament

Southwest Valley’s Teagan Lundquist won the 126 pound title and teammate Logan Calkins was the winner at 145.

The Atlantic/CAM wrestling team finished 4th at the Hawkeye Ten Individual Tournament on Saturday at Lewis Central. The Trojans racked up 176.5 points and had 3 individual champions on the day. Kole Hansen became a 2x champion at 126 pounds, Chase McLaren became a 3x Champion at 132 pounds, and John McConkey also became a 2x champion at 285 pounds. Other top finishers for the Trojans were Steele McLaren- Runner-Up at 120, Joe Weaver 3rd at 106, Aybren Moore 3rd at 113, Connor Pellett 4th at 152, Cale Roller 4th at 170, and Kenny Jimmerson 5th at 160.

Glenwood took the team title with 237.5 points and had three individual champions.

A big crowd at Carver-Hawkeye Arena never even had a chance to get into the game, Sunday. Nebraska shot a blistering 62 percent in the second quarter to blow the game open in a 92-74 win over 25th ranked Iowa. The Hawkeyes trailed by thirty points at halftime and it left coach Lisa Bluder looking for answers. The Hawkeyes shot only 41 percent, including one of 12 from three point range, and were outrebounded 44-33.

Megan Gustafson had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Kathleen Doyle had 16 points. They were the only Hawkeyes in double figures. Iowa falls to 4-5 in the Big Ten and 16-6 overall. It was Nebraska’s ninth straight road win and the Huskers improve to 7-2 in the Big Ten.
