Indiana State halts skid, shoots past Northern Iowa, 77-66

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Brenton Scott scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Indiana State pulled away from Northern Iowa in the second half to take a 77-66 Missouri Valley Conference victory and snap a three-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon. Scott knocked down three 3-pointers, giving him 257 career treys and leaving him 26 shy of the school record.

The Sycamores hit five 3-pointers in a row, the final two by Devin Thomas, to extend a one-point second-half lead, 45-44, into a 60-52 advantage. Jordan Barnes contributed 13 points for Indiana State (11-13, 5-6).

Bennett Koch hit 8 of 11 from the free-throw line and finished with 16 points to lead Northern Iowa (11-13, 3-9), which dropped its third straight and fourth in its last five games. Klint Carlson added 14 points and Isaiah Brown contributed 10.

Audubon runs away from Griswold in boys hoops Friday

The Audubon Wheelers boys basketball team opened up a 12 point lead on the Griswold Tigers in the first quarter and never looked back in a 59-36 win. Tate Killeen led the way for the Wheelers with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals.

The Wheelers improve to 10-10 on the season and will head to AHSTW to wind down the regular season on Tuesday.

Griswold was led by 12 points and 12 rebounds from Morgan Mundorf in a nice senior night performance. The Tigers fall to 2-17 on the season and will travel to IKM-Manning on Tuesday.

Griswold girls rally for win over Audubon

The Griswold Tigers girls basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to pick up a 35-31 win over the Audubon Wheelers on Friday night. The Wheelers controlled the lead for most of the second half but Griswold rallied in the fourth quarter. A Mateya Peters three gave Griswold the lead at 30-29, that was the Tigers first lead since 6-5 at the end of the first quarter.

The Tigers also got 11 points from Brittney Beebe as they improved to 9-11.

Leah Subbert led Audubon with 14 but she fouled out in the last minute of the game. The Wheelers fall to 2-17 with the loss.

Both teams have one final regular season game next Tuesday before the playoffs.

Exira-EHK’s Wilson to continuing running career at NIACC

Exira-EHK senior Evan Wilson signed a letter of intent this week to continue his cross country and track career at NIACC.

Wilson has been a very strong runner for the Spartans and has been focusing on his running since sophomore year when he gave up football to focus on one sport during the fall.

Wilson will be joining NIACC head coach Curits Vais’ program in Mason City in the fall.

Audubon’s Lange commits to Buena Vista Football

Audubon standout wide receiver Josh Lange announced on Thursday that he has committed to Buena Vista University to continue his academic and football career. Lange announced his decision on Twitter saying “Very excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and football career at Buena Vista University!!! #BuildTheDam #rollbeavs”

Lange has been a four year starter for the Wheelers racking up 122 catches for 1,940 yards and 27 touchdowns throughout his career. Lange also carried the ball on the ground 69 times for 528 yards and six more scores.  His Wheeler squads went 33-8 during his career and they made it to the quarterfinal round of the 8-man playoffs this year, falling to eventual runner-up Remsen St. Mary’s.
