“It was a windy day in Carroll.  The meet was moved from the Municipal Course to Carroll Country Club.  We played the back nine today.  We weren’t sure we would play since Carroll had gotten some snow overnight.  Good to see Matt shoot a solid round today of 37.  Had some three putts that he would like to have back.  Cyle started rough but came back with the last few holes.  Hopefully he will get down into the 30s next round.  Good score by Drey.  Nice to see him be our third score.  Braden had a good score.  Hopefully we can get him down some though as well.  Tate and Garret had a few holes that got them but good they finished in the mid 40s.  A 163 is a nice score for us on an away course for the first round.  We will look to shoot better on Thursday.  Kuemper had three guys shoot 39 and two low 40s.  That is what got them the win today. Good to see our JV guys get a round in on an away course.  Cooper played really well.  His best round yet.”

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Fred Hoiberg has been introduced as Nebraska’s new basketball coach at a news conference where 300 people attended and cheerleaders greeted him as he walked to the dais. The Chicago Bulls fired Hoiberg four months ago. He said he was drawn to Nebraska because of his family’s ties to the state and university. Hoiberg’s grandfather Jerry Bush coached the Huskers in the 1950s and ’60s. Hoiberg’s charge is to turn around a program that finished 10th or lower in the Big Ten six times in eight years.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Nelson Cruz got a second chance and delivered a go-ahead single with two outs in the 10th inning, giving the Minnesota Twins a 5-4 victory over the sloppy Kansas City Royals. Trevor Hildenberger got the final out of the ninth inning for Minnesota, and Blake Parker breezed through the bottom half of the 10th to earn the save.

NEW YORK (AP) — Garrison Mathews swished his ninth 3-pointer of the game in front of an exuberant Lipscomb bench for the lead with 1:10 left in the game to send the Bisons on their way to the NIT championship in a 71-64 win over Wichita State.
