Homecoming for the Atlantic Trojans is upon us this week against the Greene County Rams. One of two opportunities left to see Atlantic play at the Trojan Bowl before changes are made this off-season. The homecoming parade will be at 2:30pm in downtown Atlantic and the game kicks at 7:00pm.

Many former players will likely come support on homecoming night and Atlantic officials want them to return for a special event next week. The final home game on the 18th against Shenandoah at 7:00pm.

Atlantic activities invites all former Atlantic high school football players to attend the last regular season football game in the Trojan bowl on October 18th. At the conclusion of the game, a large group photo of past and present players will be taken down on the field. They hope to see many former players there!

The Atlantic Trojan Cross Country Meet scheduled for today at Nishna Hills Golf Course has been postponed until Saturday, October 12th due to weather conditions. The site will now be the Atlantic High School campus on Saturday.

The new schedule for Saturday’s meet will be Varsity girls starting at 11 am, followed by Varsity boys, JV girls, JV boys, MS girls and then MS boys.

The Riverside vs. St. Albert football game this Friday night has had a change of venue. The game was scheduled to be played in Council Bluffs but will now be played in Oakland instead. The game will still have a 7:00pm kickoff.

Early this week the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the postseason volleyball pairings for all classes. First round matches in Class 1A and 2A will be on Tuesday, October 22nd. First round matches in Class 3A, 4A, and 5A will be on Wednesday, October 23rd. Area first round match-ups are listed below. A number of area teams have first round byes as well depending on class.

IRVING, Texas – Iowa State women’s basketball center Kristin Scott was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, while incoming sophomore Ashley Joens was named honorable mention preseason All-Big 12, the league announced Wednesday.

Scott appeared in all 35 games for the Cyclones and was ISU’s second-leading scorer, averaging 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Her contributions in 2018-19 earned the Kasson, Minn. native second-team All-Big 12 honors.

Scott also positioned herself as Iowa State’s best shooter, leading the team in field-goal percentage, knocking down 56.1 percent from the floor. She also led the Cyclones in 3-point percentage, going 38.1 percent from downtown and connecting on 45 triples.

Last season against Oklahoma State, she went a school-record 11-of-11 for a career-high 31 points and 12 rebounds in ISU’s win at Oklahoma State. She became just the third player and first power five player to score 31 points, while remaining perfect from the floor and earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors for her efforts.

Joens on the other hand, started in all 35 games last season for the Cyclones, averaging 11.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She was named to the Big 12’s All-Freshman Team for her efforts.

The Iowa City, Iowa native is also a two-time gold medalist with USA Basketball. She helped USA Basketball capture gold this summer at the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup.

The Cyclones will officially kick off the 2019-20 season on Thursday, Nov. 7 against Southern at 6:30 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
