Glenwood uses tough pressure to put away Atlantic

Sports

January 30th, 2020 by admin

The Glenwood girls basketball team ramped up some man pressure in the second quarter and flustered Atlantic on their way to an 80-50 victory on Thursday night. The Trojans held tight early with a 17-13 lead in favor of the Rams at the end of the 1st. The pressure in the second then forced a large number of Atlantic turnovers, and the Rams took advantage of those mistakes to grab a 38-18 lead at half. Both teams got the offense going better in the second half and the Rams gradually added a little to their lead. After the game Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason said Glenwood is just a solid team.

Glenwood was led by 14 points apiece from Jenna Hopp and Madison Camden. Elle Scarborough added 12, Emma Hughes had 13, and Coryl Matheny dropped in 10. The Rams stay unbeaten on the season, improving to 16-0. They will next host Treynor in a non-conference tilt on Monday.

Atlantic had three players in double figures, Haley Rasmussen and McKenzie Waters both had 12 and Tessa Grooms added 10. Despite the loss Coach Vargason was proud of the girls for continuing to fight through the game.

The Trojans fall to back to .500 at 8-8 on the season and they will travel to St. Albert on Friday night. We’ll have that game on KJAN with pregame at 5:50 p.m. and tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
