ST. LOUIS (AP) – Tommy Pham and Randal Grichuk homered and drove in two runs each and the St. Louis Cardinals denied the Chicago Cubs a chance at clinching the NL Central with an 8-7 victory Tuesday night.

Matt Carpenter and Jedd Gyorko also homered for St. Louis, which remains 2 1/2 games behind the second Wild Card spot. Zach Duke (1-1) got the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Juan Nicasio earned his fifth save.

The Cubs were seeking to clinch the Central division with either a win or a Milwaukee loss against Cincinnati, but the Brewers beat the Reds 7-6.

Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez allowed three runs (two earned) and four hits in 4 1/3 innings. Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta (14-10) allowed five runs (three earned) and six hits in three innings, his second shortest outing this season.

Chiefs put kicker Santos on IR, sign Butker from Panthers

Sports

September 26th, 2017 by admin

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Chiefs have placed kicker Cairo Santos on injured reserve and claimed rookie kicker Harrison Butker off the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad.

The moves were made Tuesday. The Chiefs did not say whether Santos would be designated to return his season. He would need to remain on IR for at least six weeks, then have two weeks to return to the roster.

Santos was hit on a field goal attempt in Sunday’s victory over the Chargers, drawing a personal foul penalty, but coach Andy Reid did not mention him among the injuries after the game.

Santos also missed time in training camp with a groin injury.

Butker, who finished his college career as Georgia Tech’s career scoring leader, will have an extra day to get up to speed. Kansas City plays the Redskins on Monday night.

Coca-Cola Days 25th Anniversary A Success!

News

September 26th, 2017 by admin

The 2017 Coca-Cola Days 25th Anniversary was held this past weekend, September 22-23, in Downtown Atlantic.

This year, there was a total of 110 registered Coca-Cola Collectors ranging from all around the country. To help welcome them into town, collectors and members of the community were treated to a Tailgate Party at the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce. The Atlantic Bottling Company grilled burgers and provided side dishes and an ice-cold Coca-Cola for everyone, serving 155 people.

Local sponsors took part in the 3rd Annual Bottles on Parade. Decorated bottles were on display outside the following sponsors: Atlantic Coca-Cola Center & Museum, Cappels Ace Hardware, China Buffet, Nishna Valley Family YMCA, The Venue and Atlantic Inn & Suites. Community members and Coca-Cola Collectors spent the weeks leading up to Coca-Cola Days voting on their favorite bottle. Over 900 votes were collected. Cappel’s Ace Hardware took home the top prize.

Also this year, the Coca-Cola Committee celebrated the 25th Anniversary with a raffle that included 25 items donated by area businesses. The raffle was valued at over $600.

The drawing took place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 23rd at the close of the Show, Swap and Sell, at the Herring Building. The winner of the raffle was Bobbie Finley of Truro, IA.

You can find more information about Coca-Cola Days on www.cocacoladays.com or www.atlanticiowa.com. Save the date for the 2018 Coca-Cola Days, September 28-29, 2018. If you have questions, comments or want to be a part of Coca-Cola Days, please contact the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce at 712-243-3017 or chamber@atlanticiowa.com.
