DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Graham Woodward made all five of his 3-pointers and scored 20 points to help Drake beat Division III Coe College 101-54 on Saturday in a season opener for the Bulldogs. It was the first victory under first-year head coach Niko Medved, who was officially named to the helm on March 26. The Minnesota native was the well-respected head coach at Furman. Reed Timmer added 16 points as six Drake players scored in double figures. Timmer entered his senior season already ranked in the top 10 in career scoring at Drake with more than 1,300 career points.

Drake led 50-25 at halftime and cruised in the second half. The Bulldogs shot 59 percent from the field, including 16 of 28 from 3-point range. Seven players for Drake hit a 3-pointer, with three apiece from De’Antae McMurray and Noah Thomas. Tommy Hook led Coe College with 12 points. The Kohawks played the game as an exhibition.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Mason Rudolph threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns — including two in the final 5:55 — and 12th-ranked Oklahoma State rallied to beat No. 24 Iowa State 49-42 on Saturday and keep its Big 12 title game hopes alive.

Justice Hill had 134 yards and three TD runs for the Cowboys (8-2, 5-2 Big 12, No. 15 CFP), who remain in a tie for second place in the league with two games to go. The top two finishers in the Big 12 will meet in the championship game in Arlington, Texas, on Dec. 2.

But even if neither the Cyclones nor Cowboys make it to Jerry World, they still gave the Big 12 a game few in the league will ever forget. Rudolph found Marcell Ateman for a 30-yard TD pass, and Hill’s two-point conversion run tied the game at 42 with 5:55 left. The Cowboys jumped ahead 49-42 just two minutes later as Rudolph found Dillon Stoner for a 19-yard touchdown reception.

The Cyclones got inside Oklahoma State’s 3-yard line with 32 seconds left, but Zeb Noland threw an interception to A.J. Green to end the game. Quarterback-linebacker Joel Lanning had a rushing and passing TD for Iowa State (6-4, 4-3). He connected with Allen Lazard on a 22-yard TD strike with 14:13 left — a pass Lazard caught with one hand while falling down.

David Montgomery made it 42-34 on a subsequent 4-yard run, but Iowa State’s highly-rated defense faltered down the stretch. Montgomery had 105 yards and three TDs for the Cyclones.

Iowa State plays at Baylor next Saturday.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Judicial Branch data shows that more than three-fourths of those who took Iowa’s bar exam passed this year. The Des Moines Register reports the state had a 78 percent pass rate this year, compared to 68 percent in 2016. Of the 260 people who took the Iowa bar in 2017, 204 passed.

The percentage of people who passed the exam on their first try also increased in 2017. Data show that most of those who took the exam graduated from Drake University and the University of Iowa.

Jerry Anderson is the dean of Drake’s law school. He says the high passing percentage shows that programs are effectively admitting and training students. The exams include essays, multiple-choice questions and a review of fundamental tasks beginning lawyers are expected to know.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A Sioux City man has been released from prison less than two months into his seven-year sentence for shooting his 3-year-old sister in the face with a BB gun. The Sioux City Journal reports that District Judge Steven Andreasen reconsidered 18-year-old Adrian White’s sentence earlier this week and suspended the remainder of White’s prison term. White is now on three years’ probation.

White was sentenced after pleading guilty Sept. 11 to assault and child endangerment. Prosecutors say White was 17 in May when he shot the preschooler twice in the face. One BB fractured the girl’s jaw and the other entered her eye and lodged next to her brain. Surgery was required to remove one of the BBs, but doctors determined the other was too risky to remove.
