Team effort leads Atlantic to road win over St. Albert boys

Sports

January 29th, 2022 by admin

Atlantic head coach Derek Hall gave his second five a chance to start the game at St. Albert on Friday night and they delivered great energy to lead the Trojans to a 57-43 win at St. Albert. Coach Hall said he gave guys the chance to earn the start in practice and they grabbed it. Ryder Burk, Caden Andersen, Lane Nelson, Jackson McLaren, and Jayden Proehl led the Trojans to an early lead, including a 12-8 advantage at the end of the first. Coach Hall then began to rotate more guys in and they followed that positive energy well,

The Trojans only led by two at half after the Falcons put in a couple buckets just before the break. Carter Pellett came out red-hot in the second half and scored the first 8 points of the half to help Atlantic go up 9 by the end of the third. Pellett had 11 points in that quarter and finished with 15 points to lead Atlantic. Dayton Templeton added 14 points and Jackson McLaren had a great game with 7 points and some timely rebounds.

Atlantic improved to 5-11 on the season and will finish off a busy week with a road trip to Perry on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.

St. Albert was led by 9 points from Carter White and they fall to 7-9 on the season.

After an extremely slow offensive start the St. Albert Saintes found enough offense in the second half to pull away from Atlantic for a 48-27 win on Friday night in Council Bluffs. The Trojans went scoreless in the first quarter and had just 6 points in the first half. St Albert led 16-6 at half and blew the game open in the second half.

Senior Pearl Reisz, who was honored on senior night prior to the game, dropped in 17 points. She hit three threes in the second half to spark the Saintes to offensive shift. Misssy Evezic added 10 points for St. Albert and they improved to 12-4 on the season with the victory.

Atlantic got 13 points from freshman Paytn Harter but no one else came close to double figures. The Trojans drop to 7-10 on the season.

Next up for the Trojans is a home came against Red Oak next Tuesday. That will be the Pink Out Coaches vs. Cancer game for Atlantic this season.
