CAM & Exira/EHK School Board Agendas for Monday, 12/17/18

Members of the CAM School District’s Board of Education will gather at the CAM High School Media Center Monday evening for their regular monthly meeting. The session begins at 5-p.m. During their meeting, the Board will hear a presentation on the TLC (Teacher Leadership Program), and a presentation from the Directed Writing Class.

Discussion and/or action items on their agenda, include: Consider approving a quote to replace the lights in the South Elementary and Middle School Buildings; Early graduation requests; a Review of District Financial Data; An Early Retirement Incentive policy; and personnel matters.

The Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton School Board will meet at 6-p.m. Monday in the Conference Room at the Elk Horn Building. On their agenda is recognition of High School TAG (Talented And Gifted) Character Class students, and LEO Leadership students. Nate and Carrie Potts will also address the Board prior to discussion and/or action on several matters.

New Business – Discussion/Action items include, but are not limited to: Approving new Social Studies graduation requirements; approval of a waiver for Offer and Teach for Spanish IV; Approve At Risk/Dropout Prevention application requested Modified Supplemental Amount equal to, or less than $143,314; Approval of a revision to Board Policy 500; Approval of a Procurement Card policy, and action on personnel matters.

Audubon School Board meeting preview

The Audubon School District’s Board of Education will meet 7-p.m. Monday (Dec. 17).  During their session in the Boardroom at the High School, the Audubon School Board will take action on:

  • Approving the Contract for a New Superintendent. The candidates include: Eric Trager, Audubon 5th-12th grade Principal; Dennis McClain, current shared Superintendent/Elementary Principal for the Clay Center Everly Community Schools; Michael Still, Secondary Principal for the Lenox Community School District; Jeff Privia, Elementary Principal for the Underwood Community School District, and Cory Lahndorf, PK-12 Principal for the HLV Community School District, in Victor.  When the Board met Dec. 11th, Superintendent Brett Gibbs submitted his resignation (effective the end of the current school year, and accepted an early retirement package.
  • They’ll act on accepting additional (if any) Early Retirement Applications. (Three early retirement requests were approved during their meeting Dec. 11th.)
  • And, the final readings of policies pertaining to: Board President, Vice-President, Technology & Data Security of 3rd Party Vendors, and Dissemination of Policy.

They’ll also act on approving the At-risk Drop Out Prevention Plan, and a Policy Review Committee recommendation. Updates during the meeting include: TLC Instructional Coaching; A review of Audubon’s ESSA Accountability Results; the Superintendent’s report, and other scheduled, regular reports. A Work session will precede the regular session, beginning at 6:30-p.m.

Al Garrison Duals

Waukee won the gold division and Harlan won the silver division at the Al Garrison Duals this weekend. The Cyclones defeated DM North/Hoover, Millard West, and Ballard in pool competition. They moved on to defeat Urbandale 52-24 to improve to 4-0 on the day.

Red Owens Wrestling Tournament

Atlantic/CAM finished fourth at the Red Owens Wrestling Tournament at Southeast Polk on Saturday. The Trojans had three Runners-up: Chase McLaren at 138, Connor Pellett at 152, and Cale Roller at 220. Brett Mower of Glenwood was a champ at 182.

Griswold School Board meeting preview

The Griswold Community School District’s Board of Education will meet Monday (Dec. 17), in the Central Office, Middle School/High School Building. Action items/New Business on the agenda for the 5:30-p.m. session, includes: Consideration of Bus Route Monitors; Approval of a Corner Conference Activities Agreement, a Drop Out Prevention Plan, and, a School Culture Framework and Areas of Focus; Discussion on a joint Board meeting with Lenox with regard to the sale of the Lewis Elementary building, and on a related note, discussion On Joint Meeting With Lewis City Council. They’ll also discuss and/or act on the sale of vehicles, and the purchase of a van.

The Board will also hold the first reading of Board Polices, series 706 and 707. Informational updates (if available) will also be presented from representatives with KPE Architects and Estes Construction. The Board will also hold the second reading of various, other Board Polices.

Obituaries

ALICE M. KAUFFMAN, 90, of Audubon, died Friday, Dec. 14th, at home. Funeral services for ALICE KAUFFMAN will be held 11-a.m. Wed., Dec. 19th, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home, with the family visitation taking place at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon on Wednesday, from 9:30-a.m. until the time of service at 11-a.m.

Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.

ALICE KAUFFMAN is survived by:

Her daughters – Marcia (Terry) Smith, of Lake City; Susan (Steve) Stetzel, of Audubon, and Abby (Mike) Dominick, of Joplin, MO.

Her son – Gregory (Ana) Kauffman, of Elizabeth, CO.

8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in Des Moines say rescue crews have pulled the body of a man from the Des Moines River. Television station KCCI reports that the man’s body was found late Saturday afternoon after an hours-long search.

OSCEOLA, Iowa (AP) — The Clarke County prosecutor has again been arrested. Television station KCCI says outgoing Clark County Attorney Michelle Rivera was arrested Friday on suspicion of operating while intoxicated. Rivera, who lost her re-election bid in November, was arrested in October on suspicion of being drunk on the job in a Clark County courtroom.

WAUKEE, Iowa (AP) — The chief operating officer for Waukee Community School District in central Iowa has turned himself in on charges related to improper spending at the district. Waukee police say 50-year-old Eric Rose turned himself at 7 a.m. Saturday. He’s charged with two counts of solicitation to commit a felony and one count of felonious misconduct in office. He was freed on $15,000 bond.

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa inmate has died in custody of unknown causes. The Iowa Department of Corrections says inmate Paul Kissel was pronounced dead early Friday morning at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center. He was 52. An autopsy has been ordered, but prison officials say his death is not considered suspicious.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Tyler Cook had 17 points and 13 rebounds, Luka Garza scored 17 and 22nd-ranked Iowa cruised past Northern Iowa 77-54 for its second straight win. Freshman Joe Wieskamp added 10 points for the Hawkeyes, who opened the game with a 25-7 run and never looked back. The teams had split the last 14 meetings _ but the bigger and more athletic Hawkeyes ran roughshod over the scuffling Panthers from the opening tip.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Michael Jacobson scored 22 points, Marial Shayok had 16 of his 18 in the second half and Iowa State rallied to beat Drake 77-68 for its sixth win in seven games. Freshman Talen Horton scored 15 points with nine rebounds and four assists for the Cyclones, who used a late 12-0 run to put away the pesky Bulldogs.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Dedric Lawson had 28 points and 12 rebounds, Lagerald Vick scored 29 and top-ranked Kansas made enough free throws down the stretch to beat No. 17 Villanova 74-71 in a Final Four rematch. Devon Dotson added 11 for the unbeaten Jayhawks, who snapped a three-game losing streak to the Wildcats. Phil Booth led the Wildcats with 29 points.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Barry Brown had 21 points and No. 25 Kansas State beat Georgia State 71-59. Brown scored the first eight points for the Wildcats and was key during a later 7-0 run. K-State let the Panthers hang around with 19 turnovers leading to 25 points as Georgia State again competed well with a Power Five school after wins over Georgia and Alabama this season.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Top-seeded Stanford won an NCAA-record eighth national title, in five hard-fought sets over defending champion Nebraska. Kathryn Plummer had 19 kills and 10 digs and Holly Campbell added 15 kills for the Cardinal, who finished the season on a 32-game winning streak. Audriana Fitzmorris had 14 kills and Morgan Hentz had 32 digs for Stanford, which won 28-26, 22-25, 25-16, 15-25 and 15-12 despite hitting only .250. Huskers star Mikaela Foecke had a game-high 29 points in her final college match.

Solsma, Morningside beat Benedictine for first NAIA title

DAYTONA, Fla. (AP) — Trent Solsma threw four touchdown passes, including an 16-yard scoring strike to Connor Niles with 1:29 to play, to help Morningside beat Benedictine 35-28 on Saturday night at Daytona Stadium for its first NAIA championship.

Solsma, the NAIA player of the year, was 19-of-36 passing for 292 yards with two interceptions. Niles, whose 25-yard TD catch gave the Mustangs a 34-28 win over Saint Francis in the semifinals, finished with seven receptions for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Arnijae Ponder had 134 yards rushing and a score on 30 carries for top-ranked Morningside (15-0).
