The Creston Police Department reports two Operating While Intoxicated arrests over the weekend.

On Friday, August 21st at 9:45pm Officers arrested 22-year-old Jacob Dobb of Creston on Highway 34 for OWI 2nd Offense and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  He was later released from the Union County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

Then early Sunday morning at 5:16am Officers arrested 19-year-old Dallon Grinder of Creston was arrested at 608 Wyoming Street and charged with OWI 1st Offense.  Grinder was later released from the Union County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Creston PD reports an accident involving two vehicles on Friday night at 8:25pm.  A 2001 Honda Odyssey Van driven by a Glenwood man was traveling south bound on New York Avenue in Creston when a Dodge Truck pulling a trailer traveling in the same direction had a tire fall of the trailer.  The tire rolled into the lane of the van and struck it in the front bumper area.  The truck and trailer were owned by a Shannon City, IA man and conditions were rainy during the accident. A damage estimate was not able to be obtained due to previous damage to the van from another accident.  The Glenwood man suffered possible injuries as the result of the accident.

Details have been released by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office about an accident on Monday, August 17th.  On that date the Montgomery County Communications received a call at 9:19pm stating there was a single vehicle property damage accident on 110th Street, 1/2 mile West of Grant.

After investigation it was determined that a 1997 Chevy 1500 operated by 73-year-old Terry Evans of Corning was parked across the traveled portion of the road with it’s four-way flashers on while attempting to close a gate after putting cattle back in the fence.  A 2013 Chevy Impala driven by 56-year-old Michael Webb of Red Oak crested the hill traveling Westbound and took evasive action to avoid hitting the Evans vehicle.  This caused the vehicle to lose control and enter the North ditch causing about $2,500 damage to the vehicle.  No other details were reported and charges are pending at this time.

Law enforcement agencies from across Iowa and the nation will be stepping up enforcement to save lives from now through this Labor Day weekend. Authorities say the motoring public will notice more officers and increased safety messaging.The Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) runs August 25th through September 7th.

The Labor Day weekend traditionally signals the end of summer and often involves one last road trip for the year with the family. It also involves a high rate of drunk driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2013, the most recent year in which data is available, there were 424 crash fatalities nationwide over the three-day Labor Day weekend. Almost half of those fatal crashes involved drivers who had been drinking, and 27 percent of those drivers had a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .15 or higher – nearly twice the legal limit of .08. In the same time period, four (4) people were killed in crashes in Iowa, twenty-five percent of those were alcohol related.

The app can even help you identify your location so you can be picked up. If you know you will be drinking, plan how you will get home afterward.

A Missouri man was arrested early Monday morning in Red Oak on multiple charges.  Red Oak Police report the arrest at 1:45am Monday in the 100 block of West Coolbaugh Street in Red Oak.  25-year-old Christopher Michael Myers of St. Joseph, Missouri was arrested for 3 counts of Theft 2nd Degree, 2 counts of Identity Theft, and 1 count of Theft 3rd Degree.  Myers was taken to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center and held on $5,000 cash bond.

The Red Oak Police Department reports the arrest of a Red Oak man late Sunday night for Breach of Peace.  At 10:44pm Officers arrested 29-year-old Brian Paul Anderson of Red Oak.  Anderson was taken in to custody and held on $300 cash bond.

Two Red Oak men were taken into custody late Saturday night. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office 38-year-old Joseph Bredberg and 29-year-old Cody Keith Tunnell, both of Red Oak, were arrested at approximately 11:39pm Saturday night in the 2300 block of Eastern Ave. for public intoxication. The two were transported to the Montgomery County Corrections Office where they were booked and held on a $300 each cash bond.

A Red Oak man was arrested early Sunday morning on a charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. According to the Red Oak Police Department, at approximately 1:08 am, Officers arrested 42-year-old Chris Allan Taylor of Red Oak for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Taylor was cited and released later Sunday morning after his bond of $300 was met.

A Police Officer in Council Bluffs was bitten and had blood spat on them while attempted to subdue an out of control suspect late Saturday evening. Authorities say the incident began when officers were called to 1320 N. 21st Street in Council Bluffs at around 7:50-p.m., Saturday, for a reported domestic disturbance.

The female victim, Jackie Sime met officers outside in the front yard and the suspect, Dean Sime refused to exit the house and yelled out to Officers to shoot him.  Officers confirmed that a Domestic Assault occurred and while speaking with Dean Sime, who was still in the doorway holding a small chainsaw, Officers observed Sime slam his head several times into the front door eventually knocking himself out.

While Sime was knocked out Officers entered the home, secured the saw and called for Medics, due to Sime having a laceration on his head from his slamming his head into the door. Officers began gathering information regarding the call and Medics arrived.  While Medics were treating Sime, he lunged for an Officer’s duty weapon, the Officer was able to turn his gun away and Sime had ahold of the Officer’s cruiser mic, which was attached to his duty belt. Another Officer was attempting to restrain Sime and was bit in the left calf, Sime was tasered by a third Officer and Sime was immediately handcuffed.

While Sime was being turned over, he spat blood in the face and on the neck of one of the Officers.  Sime refused medical assistance and was taken to Corrections, the Officer who was bitten and spit on went to Mercy Hospital for treatment of possible exposure.  The Officer’s left calf had redness and slight swelling from the bite, the Officer was released back to full duty.

Sime faces several charges, including: Disarming a peace officer; Assault on a Peace Officer; Interference with Official Acts, and Serious Domestic Assault.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A Sioux City police dog has been euthanized, four months after his police handler died of natural causes. The Sioux City Journal reports that the black Belgian malinois K-9 named “Eik” was put to sleep Thursday after a battle with cancer. In April, Sergeant Jay Fleckenstein — who trained Eik from a puppy and was his handler for six years — died at his home of natural causes.

A week after Fleckenstein’s death, Eik was retired, and the Fleckenstein family bought him from the department for $1. Police Chief Doug Young says the K-9’s death is a sad day for the department and called Eik “a good dog.”
