The Iowa State Patrol reports at 4:00am 31-year-old Deputy Adam Fields was conducting a traffic stop on I-29 Northbound at the 45 mile-marker and had his emergency lights on. While Deputy Fields was making contact with the driver of the stopped vehicle, a passing 2018 Volvo FedEx Semi struck Deputy Fields’ Ford Explorer and then hit Deputy Fields while he was standing next to the violator’s driver window. The driver of the semi, 26-year-old Austin Vincent Oliver of Bronson, IA, dozed off at the wheel to cause the accident. The Volvo ended up crossing over the median, through the cable barrier, and across the southbound lanes before jackknifing in the west ditch. The Explorer came to rest upright on the shoulder, and the passengers of the vehicle that was stopped by Deputy Fields were unharmed.

Deputy Fields was transported to Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs by Council Bluffs EMS and treated for a leg injury and was later released.

The patrol car was a total loss. Oliver was cited for Failure to Maintain Control and taken out of service for being a fatigued driver.

The driver of the vehicle that was stopped by Deputy Fields was arrested and processed for Operating While Intoxicated.

Truck tips over in accident south of Clarinda Thursday

News

February 16th, 2019 by admin

The driver of a bucket trucked that tipped over on Thursday south of Clarinda was uninjured. Page County Sheriff’s Officials report that Deputies responded to the accident on Thursday at 11:30am in the 2100 block of T Avenue in Page County.

The Investigation determined that a 2007 International 7400 bucket truck driven by 31-year-old Patrick Michael Buemer of Brooklyn, IA was traveling southbound and attempted to get over for a passing northbound vehicle. The right wheels of the boom truck went off the road and the truck hit two residential drives while attempting to get back on the traveled portion of the road. The second driveway caused the truck to tip onto it’s right side in the ditch, disabling the vehicle. Buemer was not injured during the accident and no citations were issued. The truck was owned by Hydaker-Wheatlake Co. from Reed City, MI.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Clarinda Ambulance, Clarinda Fire Department, and the Clarinda Police Department.
