Sleepy driver causes crash in Page County

The Page County Sheriff’s Office released information on a two-vehicle accident on Monday, February 11th. The accident happened at approximately 4:20am in the 1200 block of Highway 2.

After investigation it was determined that a 2009 Chevy Cobalt driven by 60-year-old Alan Leslie Bellairs of Shenandoah was driving westbound on Highway 2 when he fell asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line of the roadway. Bellairs struck a 1997 Ford F250 pickup that was heading eastbound and driven by 58-year-old Danny Charles Tindle of Clarinda. The Chevy came to rest in the traveled portion of the highway and the Ford came to rest in the north ditch.

Bellairs was taken to the Shenandoah Medical Center by Shenandoah Ambulance service with undisclosed injuries. Tindle was uninjured. Bellairs was cited for Failure to Maintain Control. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage.

The Page County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Shenandoah Police Department, the Shenandoah Fire Department, and the Shenandoah Ambulance service.
