Minor injuries in Cass County 2 vehicle collision Saturday

Dispatch reports Saturday afternoon said only minor injuries occurred during a two-vehicle collision southwest of Atlantic. Emergency crews, including Lewis 1st Responders, Atlantic Fire and Rescue, Medivac Ambulance and Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene off Highway 6, near the Dairy Farm.

An SUV came to rest near a corn field, while a came to rest in the field. The vehicles’ occupants were outside when emergency personnel arrived. No other details were immediately available late Saturday afternoon.

Man faces charges in Nebraska, Iowa following police chase

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (AP) — An Iowa man faces charges in Nebraska and Iowa after officials say he led officers on a high-speed chase and rammed two law enforcement vehicles. The Nebraska State Patrol says the incident happened Friday evening when a trooper tried to stop a pickup truck being pursued by South Sioux City police. Officials say the truck rammed the trooper’s car, which had maneuvered in front of it, from behind before crossing into Iowa.

The trooper and a Dakota County Sheriff’s Office following the truck onto Interstate 29 before it went out of control and became stuck in a median. Officials say the truck then rammed both the trooper’s car and the sheriff’s SUV before the driver was arrested.

The patrol says 43-year-old Larry Johnson II, of Sioux City, in being held in an Iowa jail. The officers were not seriously injured.

Authorities identify man whose body was found in Keokuk

KEOKUK, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have identified a man whose body was discovered near the wastewater treatment plant in Keokuk. The Hawk Eye reports that police identified the man as 34-year-old Jake Anthony Mason, of Keokuk.

Mason’s body was found Wednesday. Keokuk police and fire personnel removed his body from the water and took it to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Decedent Care Center in Iowa City for an autopsy.

Additional details, including whether law enforcement had any reports of missing people in the area, the cause of death and whether foul play is suspected, have not been released.

3 vehicle crash leaves 1 dead 1 injured in Carroll County

A collision between three vehicles Friday afternoon in Carroll County, resulted in one fatality and another person injured. The Iowa State Patrol reports the crash happened at around 2:53-p.m. at the intersection of Highways 71 and 141. Officials say one of the drivers, 86-year old Donald M. Tallman, of Reno, Nevada, who was not wearing his seat belt, died at the scene of the crash. Another driver, 58-year old Rebecca Hewitt, of Arkansas City, Kansas, who wore her seat belt, was transported by ambulance to St. Anthony Hospital, in Carroll.

The crash occurred when a 2018 KIA Soul driven by Tallman, was coming to a stop behind a 2015 Chevy Equinox SUV driven by Hewitt, as both were westbound on Highway 44. A 2005 Ford F-150 driven by 29-year old Mitchell Hewitt, of Arkansas City, KS, was stopped ahead of the Chevy, waiting for cross traffic, so he could turn left onto Highway 141.

The KIA rear-ended the SUV, causing that vehicle to hit the rear of the pickup. The KIA came to rest facing westbound along Highway 71. The SUV and pickup came to rest facing west on Highway 141.

Man arrested on drug charges in Adams County

A traffic stop at around 12:12-a.m. today (Saturday) in Adams County, resulted in the arrest of a man on drug charges. Deputies conducted the traffic stop on a vehicle near the 150th Street and Union Avenue intersection. When they approached the driver, Wayne Sign IV, Deputies observed a substance believed to be marijuana, on his clothing. Upon further investigation, Sign was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Offense and Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense.

Bedford man arrested Friday for violating court order

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office reports 54-year old Curt Weaver, of Bedford, was arrested Friday in the 700 block of Madison Street, in Bedford. Weaver was charged with Violating a No Contact Order and was being held at the Taylor County Jail pending an appearance with the magistrate.

NE man arrested for alleged sale of hallucinogenic ‘shrooms

Fremont County Sheriff Kevin Aistrope reports that on Friday, (July 6th), Deputies with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office conducted a narcotics investigation in Tabor. During the investigation Deputies arrested 25-year old Tyler Murtaugh of Omaha, NE.

Murtaugh was found to be selling approximately one-quarter pound of Psilocybin Mushrooms before being apprehended by deputies. He was transported to the Fremont County Law Enforcement Center where his cash-only bond was set at $10,000.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Tabor Police Dept. with the investigation.

Distracted driver strikes parked vehicle in Red Oak

An early morning accident in Red Oak resulted in no injuries after a vehicle struck another parked vehicle. At approximately 1:30am a 1999 Ford Escort driven by 17-year-old Sebastian Kage Meek of Red Oak was traveling westbound in the 400 block of East Reed Street when he struck a legally parked 2007 Chevy Tahoe on the rear driver’s side. Police reports cite manual use of an electronic communication device as a reason for Meek being distracted during the crash. Damage to the Tahoe was estimated at $1,200 and damage to Meek’s Ford was estimated at $800. Meek was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

Assault arrest in Red Oak early Saturday

The Red Oak Police Department reports the arrest of a Red Oak man after an early morning incident on Saturday. At 2:23am Officers arrested 29-year-old Chase Michael Samples of Red Oak in the 800 block of North 4th Street. He was charged with Serious Assault causing bodily injury (a Serious Misdemeanor). Samples was taken to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center and held on $1,000 cash bond. Red Oak PD was assisted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in the arrest.
