Sheriff’s officials in Montgomery County report the arrest at around 9:12-p.m. Monday, of 57-year old Teresa Williams, from Red Oak. Williams was arrested following an incident in the 2300 block of Eastern Avenue. She was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and charged with Assault on a person in certain occupations. Her bond was set at $1,000. Red Oak Police assisted in the arrest.

Three people were arrested Monday night, in Red Oak. Authorities say at around 7:47-p.m., Officers responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of E. Reed Street, and upon further investigation, arrested 28-year old Maiah Lynn Caron and 33-year old Johnny Earl Gossett II, both of Red Oak, for Violation of a No Contact Order. The pair were transported to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $300 bond each. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted in their arrests.

And, at around 10-p.m. Monday, Red Oak Police arrested 56-year old Roy Dean Baker, of Des Moines, for Public Intoxication. He was arrested in the 2300 block of Eastern Avenue, and held on a $300 bond.

FORT MADISON– Officials with the Iowa Department of Corrections, Monday, said a correctional officer was assaulted by an inmate at the Iowa State Penitentiary at approximately 2:42 p.m., Monday. The officer was working at their post in a living unit when an inmate, unprovoked, approached the officer and began striking them several times in the face with closed-fists.  Additional staff arrived quickly to take control of the aggressive inmate.

The officer was taken by department vehicle to the local hospital to be seen for injuries to the face, and has since been released. The inmate involved in the assault was found to have not suffered any injuries.  The incident remains under investigation.

Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater reports two arrests took place last week. At around 11:50-p.m. Friday, 63-year old Charles Lyn Davis, of Casey, was arrested at the Stuart Kum-and-Go by Stuart Police. Davis was charged with OWI/3rd offense following an investigation into an incident that took place earlier at the McDonald’s Restaurant, in Stuart.

His Breath Alcohol Content (BAC) registered .170, or nearly twice the legal limit for intoxication. Davis had two prior convictions for OWI in the past 12 years, one in Guthrie County in 2009, and one in Union County in 2016. Davis was released from the Adair County Jail Saturday afternoon, on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.

And, at around 3:20-a.m. on Nov. 8th, 40-year old Michael Lynn Huddleson, of Fontanelle, was arrested on Highway 92 in Fontanelle for OWI/2nd offense, following a traffic stop for speeding 82 mph in a 55 mph zone. His BAC tested at .102%. Huddleson was released later that same day on a $2,000 cash or surety bond.

An accident in the parking lot of the Woodward-Granger High School, Monday, claimed the life of a 7-year old boy from Bouton. The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at around 3:42-p.m., as a 2019 GMC Denali, driven by a 47-year-old from Perry, was traveling northbound in the parking lot.

According to the report, the second grade child “victim traveled in front of the vehicle and impacted the front passenger side.” The SUV then ran over the child before coming to a complete stop. The victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Additional information, including the names of those involved was being withheld by authorities, pending completion of the investigation and notification of family.

Woodward Police and Fire assisted at the scene.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — With Iowa hospitals filling up and schools closing classrooms, Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds dropped her longtime opposition to a statewide mask mandate and enacted a limited version of one. A proclamation signed by the governor requires everyone 2 or older must wear masks when in indoor public spaces. Reynolds also limited many indoor gatherings to no more than 15 people and outdoor gatherings to 30, including family get-togethers. Bars and restaurants cannot stay open for in-person service past 10 p.m. And she suspended all youth and adult sports and recreational activities, except for high school, college and professional sports.

NEW VIENNA, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a grain barn in eastern Iowa has been destroyed in an early-morning fire. Television station KCRG reports firefighters were called to the blaze around 3:20 a.m. Monday in Dubuque County. Officials say arriving firefighters found the barn completely engulfed in flames. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but the barn is a total loss. Officials say a house and a vehicle on the property sustained heat damage during the fire. Officials say the fire caused about $25,000 in damage. No injuries were reported.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Officials say a mother and her two children were injured this weekend escaping an apartment fire in West Des Moines. Television station WOI reports that firefighters were called just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday to the West Glen Apartment complex. Arriving firefighters saw smoke coming from the building and called for a second alarm, and police arrived to help evacuate the building. Officials say a mother and her two children were taken to a hospital with minor injuries after escaping through a third-story window. Fire crews quickly brought the fire under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Iowa set another record as the recent surge in cases continued. The state said 1,279 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Iowa on Saturday, up from 1,261 the day before. Iowa also reported 4,432 new cases and 13 additional deaths as of Sunday morning to give the state 184,685 cases and 1,985 deaths. Over the past week in Iowa, one out of every 95 people in the state was diagnosed with COVID-19, and the rate of new cases in the state remained the third-highest in the nation,
