Iowa COVID-19 update for 11/17/20: Deaths top 2,020; Positive tests nearly 191,000

Iowa’s Coronavirus dashboard as of 10-a.m. Tuesday (today), indicated there have been 33 additional deaths attributed to COVID-19 since Monday’s report, for a total of 2,024. The number of deaths attributed to a pre-existing conditions statewide are 1,274, while deaths at Long-Term Care facilities amount to 945, 11 more than yesterday. There are two more deaths to report in Cass County, for a total of 16, and one more death in each of Harrison and Pottawattamie Counties.

Officials say there have been 3,563 new confirmed, Positive cases of the virus reported since 10-a.m. Monday, for a total since the pandemic began, of 190,583. Cass County has 14 new, Positive cases of COVID, for a total of 663. Double-digit Positive case increases were reported in Adair, Audubon, Harrison, Madison, Mills, Montgomery, Shelby and Union Counties. Pottawattamie County reports 266 new positive test results since Monday. (See the list below).

There are 96 Long-Term Care facility (LTC) outbreaks, four less than yesterday. Those care facilities report 2,880 positive cases and 1,439 recovered.

Hospitalization rates continue to climb, from 1,392 Monday, to 1,510 today. The IDPH says a record 288 COVID patients are in the ICU (17 more than Monday), 215 patients were admitted to a hospital (compared to 243 yesterday), and there are seven more people on a ventilator, for a total of 130. In western/southwestern Iowa: there are 68 COVID patients in the hospital (2 less than yesterday); 22 are in an ICU (2 more than Monday), five people were admitted to a hospital (compared to 12 on Monday), and there are seven people a ventilator (1 less than yesterday).

The state’s data shows that 1,114,057 Iowans have been tested for coronavirus. Test results received yesterday amounted to 8,218, with 6,200 coming back Negative and 2,003 Positive.  The total number of Negative results since the beginning of the pandemic is 921,656. The state receives test results from prior days and adds them to the overall total. Iowa’s 14-day positivity rate is 22.8, and the Individual Positivity rate is 17.1%. The IDPH says 109,929 Iowans have recovered from the virus.
