Fatal SUV vs. Pedestrian accident in Eastern Iowa’s Muscatine County

An accident Saturday morning in eastern Iowa has claimed the life of a man from Muscatine. The Iowa State Patrol reports a 2007 Mercury Mariner SUV driven by 51-year-old Tamar R. Coey, of Wapello, was traveling south on Highway 61 at around 6:17-a.m., when the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was on the traveled portion of the road. 33-year old Cody R. Terpenning, of Muscatine, died at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation. The Patrol was assisted at the scene by Muscatine Police and Fire Department personnel.

Fatal accident in Cherokee County, Friday night

The Iowa State Patrol, Saturday, released information with regard to a fatal, single-vehicle accident in northwest Iowa’s Cherokee County. Authorities say a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a 2005 Ford Mustang for reckless speeding on Highway 3 near Meriden, when the driver of the Mustang, 26-year-old Matthew James Williams, of Paulina, accelerated in an attempt to elude the deputy.

The car turned south onto County Road L-51/L Avenue and continued south at a high rate of speed, driving off the road surface several times. At around 10:26-p.m., the car went out of control and went off the west side of the road before crashing. Williams, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to the Cherokee Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Montgomery County Jail inmate served with additional warrant

The Red Oak Police department reports a warrant was served on 28-year-old Tyler Blaine Baucom of Red Oak on a count of Violating a Protective Order. Baucom was already in jail on another count of Violating a Protective Order. Bond on the additional charge was set at $300.

CHARLES LEROY ARNBURG, 81, of Redfield died Thursday, November 19th at his home in Redfield. Open viewing time for family and friends of CHARLES LEROY ARNBURG will be held Sunday, November 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Private Family Graveside Services will be held at East Linn Cemetery.

The graveside service will be live-streamed starting at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30th on the Johnson Family Funeral Home Facebook Page.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Iowa COVID-19 update for 11/21/20: 32 additional deaths; 3,627 new cases

Iowa’s Coronavirus dashboard today (as of 10-a.m. Saturday), shows 32 additional deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 since Friday’s 10-a.m. report, for a total of 2,159. The number of deaths attributed to a pre-existing conditions statewide are 1,301, while deaths at Long-Term Care facilities amount to 993, 11 more than on Friday. There is one more death to report in Harrison County (total of 27) and two more in Pottawattamie County (total of 64).

Officials say there have been 3,627 new confirmed, Positive cases of the virus reported since yesterday, for a total since the pandemic began, of 206,660. Cass County now has 12 new, Positive cases of COVID, for a total of 718. Double-digit Positive case increases were reported in Adair, Guthrie, Harrison, Madison, Mills, and Union Counties, and 139 more cases in Pottawattamie County. (See the list below)

There are 3 additional Long-Term Care facility (LTC) outbreaks, for a total of 120. Those care facilities report 4,369 positive cases and 1,905 recovered. Cass County’s three LTC facilities have a total of 195 confirmed positive cases and 104 recovered. Harrison County has two LTC facility outbreaks, for a total of 213 confirmed positive cases and 173 recovered. In Pottawattamie County, there are 177 outbreaks among three LTC facilities, with 66 recovered. And, in Shelby County, there are 116 outbreaks among two facilities and 18 persons have recovered.

The health department reports a another drop in virus hospitalizations. There are currently 1,416 Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19. There are 273 COVID patients in an ICU, while 200 people were admitted since Friday. There are also 137 on a ventilator. Hospital analysis shows 1,041 patients are hospitalized due to a primary COVID-19 diagnosis while 375 were hospitalized for another reason but tested positive. Health department data shows 76% of Iowa’s hospitalized patients are 60 or older. In western/southwestern Iowa: there are 75 COVID patients in the hospital; 24 are in an ICU, 9 people were admitted to a hospital, and there are still eight people a ventilator.

The state’s data shows that 1,153,810 Iowans have been tested for coronavirus. Test results received yesterday amounted to 10,558, with 8,028 coming back Negative and 2,489 Positive.  The total number of Negative results since the beginning of the pandemic is 945,103. Iowa’s 14-day positivity rate is 21.2%, and the Individual Positivity rate is 17.9%.

The IDPH says 115,732 Iowans have recovered from the virus. In the KJAN listening area, here are the current number positive cases in each county, along with the 24-hour change in case numbers {+#}; the number of persons recovered, and the total number of [deaths] (if any), since the pandemic began,
