The Iowa State Patrol, Saturday, released information with regard to a fatal, single-vehicle accident in northwest Iowa’s Cherokee County. Authorities say a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a 2005 Ford Mustang for reckless speeding on Highway 3 near Meriden, when the driver of the Mustang, 26-year-old Matthew James Williams, of Paulina, accelerated in an attempt to elude the deputy.

The car turned south onto County Road L-51/L Avenue and continued south at a high rate of speed, driving off the road surface several times. At around 10:26-p.m., the car went out of control and went off the west side of the road before crashing. Williams, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to the Cherokee Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
