The Horned Frogs used an 18-7 run that started with about nine minutes left to build a 77-71 lead with 34 seconds to play. Nembhard had nine points including a dunk and a three-point play during the stretch. The Cyclones pulled within three points twice in the remaining seconds but didn’t get closer. Rasir Bolton scored 26 points to lead Iowa State. TCU (11-7, 4-5 Big 12) has won consecutive games. Iowa State (2-12, 0-9) has lost eight straight.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Christian Bishop scored 17 points and No. 19 Creighton capitalized on Georgetown’s worst shooting performance in a decade while rolling to a 63-48 win. Creighton avenged an 86-79 loss to the Hoyas in Omaha, Nebraska, last Wednesday and won for the fifth time in six games. Georgetown had elevated its play while winning two of three since its three-week COVID-19 pause. But against their third straight ranked opponent, the Hoyas looked more like the team that lost eight of its first 11 games. The Bluejays never trailed and led by as many as 24 points at McDonough Arena.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs placed outside linebackers coach Britt Reid on administrative leave while an investigation continues into a crash that injured two children. The team has said Reid, who is head coach Andy Reid’s son, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash last Thursday that injured two young children near the team’s training complex next to Arrowhead Stadium. A 5-year-old girl, identified by the Chiefs as Ariel Young, remained in critical condition on Tuesday. The Chiefs said the team has contacted the girl’s family and is offering support and resources to them. Andy Reid said this week that Britt underwent surgery after the crash.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have surgery this week on the turf toe injury he suffered in the playoffs. That likely will sideline him for the start of the offseason program but ensure he’ll be ready well before training camp. Mahomes met with coaches and trainers a day after the Chiefs were beaten 31-9 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl, and the decision was made to have surgery later in the week, according to a person familiar with the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the plans had not been disclosed publicly.

UNDATED (AP) — The longtime NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer has died. Family friend and former Kansas City Chiefs publicist Bob Moore says Schottenheimer died Monday night in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014 and was moved to a hospice Jan. 30. Schottenheimer won 200 regular-season games with four NFL teams thanks to his “Martyball” brand of smash-mouth football but fell short in the playoffs. He was the eighth-winningest coach in NFL history. He coached for 21 seasons with Cleveland, Kansas City, Washington and San Diego. His success was rooted in “Martyball,” a conservative approach that featured a strong running game and tough defense. He would exhort his players before a game with his mantra, “One play at a time.” Marty Schotenheimer was 77.

Regional Dual Team Wrestling action took place on Tuesday night for Class 1A and 2A winners. The winner at each site advanced on to the State Team Dual Tournament next Wednesday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

The Harlan boys basketball hit some big shots in key moments down the stretch to defeat Atlantic 62-49 on Tuesday night. The Cyclones led by one at the end of the first and increased the lead to seven by halftime. Atlantic trimmed the lead to 4 early in the third quarter but Isaiah Ahrenholtz hit a three at the top of the key to push the lead back to 7. Atlantic was down 40-35 to start the fourth quarter and after the teams traded buckets Bradley Curren hit a step back three to widen the gap again. The Cyclones went on to hit 10-12 free throws in the final quarter to keep Atlantic at bay and get the win.

The Cyclones were led by 19 points from Bradley Curren and 12 from Aidan Hall. Harlan gets back to .500 on the season with a 9-9 record. Next up for Harlan is a trip to Creston on Friday.

Atlantic got 15 points each from Dayton Templeton and Ethan Williams. The Trojans fall to 9-6 on the season and will prep for a couple of big conference race games to end the week. Home against Shenandoah on Thursday and at Clarinda on Friday. We’ll have coverage of that Clarinda game on Friday on KJAN with pregame at approximately 7:20 p.m.

Harlan outscored Atlantic by 8 in the third quarter and 9 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 62-48 win in girls hoops on Tuesday night. The Trojans started the game strong with good passing and shooting to jump on top 16-10 after one. The Trojans led 28-25 at half before letting the lead slip away. Harlan failed to knock down a three in the first half, but hit three timely ones in the second half to help them jump out front. The Cyclones also controlled the boards in the second half to give them a number of second chance opportunities.

Macie Leinen dropped in 11 of her game high 21 points in the third quarter turnaround for the Cyclones. Claire Schmitz sat much of the game with foul trouble but came up big late with 12 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter. Brecken Van Baale also finished in double figures with 14 for the Cyclones. Harlan improved to 15-5 on the season and are awaiting their postseason pairing in Class 4A.

Atlantic was led by 14 points from Haley Rasmussen, 12 from Maycie Waters, and 10 from Lauren Nicholas. Atlantic fell to 8-13 on the season and will now turn their attention to the postseason. Atlantic opens up Class 3A Region 1 play on Saturday at home against Greene County. We’ll have coverage of that game on KJAN with pregame at 6:50 p.m. with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.
