AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University announced today that Saturday’s game against the University of Iowa will be a sellout.

The only remaining tickets (fewer than 200) are single tickets randomly located throughout the stadium.

“With the late surge of season tickets purchased by Cyclone fans last week and over the weekend, there are only scattered singles available for the game this weekend,” Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. “Our attendance should top 55,000 and I can’t imagine there will many college atmospheres rivaling what will take place in Jack Trice Stadium this weekend.”

The largest attendance for an Iowa State vs. Iowa game in Jack Trice Stadium was 54,469 in 1991. The all-time record crowd for an Iowa State home game is 56,795, which was set in 2007 against Northern Iowa.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State wants to push the tempo on offense this season, in the hopes that a faster pace will wear out opponents. The Cyclones speedy attack got off to a slow start in the opener. Iowa State, behind new quarterback Steele Jantz, mustered only 20 points in a one-point win over Northern Iowa of the FCS on Saturday night. It took the Cyclones 30 minutes to score against the Panthers, and through three quarters they had just 185 yards of offense. Those kind of numbers likely won’t be good enough when Iowa State hosts rival Iowa on Saturday. The Hawkeyes have three straight over the Cyclones while allowing just 15 points.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Juan Francisco capped a career-best four-hit day with the go-ahead hit in the 10th inning and the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Sunday, taking two of three from a team desperately trying to stay in contention. Jon Jay homered and Daniel Descalso had an RBI triple for the Cardinals, who fell 9 1/2 games behind NL Central-leading Milwaukee heading into a three-game series with the Brewers starting Monday night. St. Louis was 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position and 2 for 20 with men on base. Francisco Cordero went through the heart of St. Louis’ order for his 30th save in 35 chances and 13th in a row, also giving him seven 30-save seasons.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Greg Bennett cruised to a 30-second victory in the Hy-Vee Triathlon in Des Moines on Sunday, joining wife Laura as a champion of the event. The 39-year-old Bennett earned $151,500 for the victory, part of a $1.1 million purse that’s the richest in the sport. American Hunter Kemper was second, followed by Britain’s Stuart Hayes. Laura Bennett, who won in Iowa in 2007, finished fifth Sunday. Sweden’s Lisa Norden took top honors in the women’s elite race, beating Australian Mirinda Carfrae by eight seconds. The event, which moved from downtown Des Moines to nearby West Des Moines because of flooding in 2008, returned to downtown this year and was pushed back from June to Labor Day weekend.
