Harlan won both the boys and girls titles at the Red Oak Cross Country meet on Monday.
On the girls side, Harlan had 47 points to narrowly defeat Griswold with 49. Atlantic placed third with 75 points. Alyx Flippin of Griswold was the champion with Tiffany Williams of Atlantic placing second.
The Harlan boys scored 19 points to dominate the meet. Red oak with 59 was second and Atlantic was third with 68 points. Michael Sciranko of Harlan was the champion. Atlantic’s Phoenix Shadden placed 9th and Ryan Hawkins was 11th.

UNDATED (AP) — TCU, West Virginia and Iowa State weren’t expected to do much in the Big 12 this season. Last weekend’s performances might change that perception. The Horned Frogs, Mountaineers and Cyclones each beat a fellow power conference team on Saturday — and West Virginia and Iowa State did it on the road.
The teams picked 7th, 8th and 9th in the preseason poll respectively had three of the Big 12’s four wins over power five teams, showing that the league might be deeper than originally thought.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles has a high ankle sprain and safety Eric Berry also has an ankle sprain, throwing their status into question for Sunday’s game in Miami.
Charles was hurt on his second carry of the Chiefs’ 24-17 loss to Denver over the weekend, and Berry left the game later in the first half. X-rays came back negative but Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Monday that he could not provide a timetable for their return.
The loss of Charles and Berry means the Chiefs (0-2) are down seven starters to injuries and suspensions. Those seven players have combined to start 355 games, play in 492 games and appear in nine Pro Bowls over 43-plus seasons in the NFL.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State lineman Jacob Gannon has rejoined the Cyclones less than two weeks after quitting the team. Coach Paul Rhoads announced Gannon’s return on Monday. Gannon says in a statement released by the school that he has been diagnosed with anxiety issues and is receiving treatment.
Gannon opened the season as Iowa State’s starting right tackle. But he left the team just days before a loss to Kansas State. Rhoads announced Gannon’s return just hours after he said backup lineman Jacob Dunning would miss the rest of the season with a ruptured patella tendon.
The Cyclones (1-2) next host No. 7 Baylor on Sept. 27.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa State offensive lineman Jacob Dunning and wide receiver P.J. Harris are likely out for the season. Cyclones coach Paul Rhoads says Dunning ruptured his patella tendon and Harris broke his leg during Saturday’s 20-17 win at Iowa.
Dunning is a backup at left tackle. Harris had nine catches for 55 yards through three games. Dunning and Harris join linebacker Levi Peters, center Ben Loth and standout wide receiver Quenton Bundrage as Cyclones who are expected to miss the rest of 2014.
Iowa State has a bye before hosting No. 7 Baylor on Sept. 27.

DENVER (AP) — Terrance Knighton batted away Alex Smith’s fourth-and-goal pass to Dwayne Bowe with 15 seconds left, preserving the Denver Broncos’ 24-17 win over the scrappy Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The Broncos thought they had sealed the win twice earlier on the drive. Aqib Talib’s pick-6 was negated by Quanterus Smith’s hold. Then, Nate Irving’s fumble recovery following DeMarcus Ware’s sack and strip was ruled an incomplete pass after a replay.
The Chiefs converted 11 of 16 third-down opportunities overall. They just couldn’t capitalize in the biggest moments as the Broncos defense mustered two goal-line stands for the second straight week. Peyton Manning was 21 of 26 for 242 yards and three TDs.

DENVER (AP) — Broncos special teams ace David Bruton was among Denver’s inactives against Kansas City. Bruton separated his left shoulder in the opener last week. He returned to practice Thursday but only on a limited basis.
Other inactives for the Broncos were WR Cody Latimer, CB Tony Carter, LB Danny Trevathan, guard Ben Garland and tackle Michael Schofield. The Broncos only had six inactives because they only have 52 players on their roster.
Kansas City’s inactives were QB Aaron Murray, WRs Albert Wilson and De’Anthony Thomas, RB Joe McKnight, OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, CB Jamell Fleming and DE Damion Square. Ryan Harris started at right tackle for Jeff Allen, one of three Chiefs lost for the season in their loss to Tennessee in the opener.
