The Atlantic boys golf team took the title at the Denison Monarch Invitational on Saturday at Majestic Hills Golf Course.

Medalist: Matt Gearheart, Atlantic, 72.
Runner-Up: Ben Renaud, Atlantic, 74.

Atlantic Head Coach Ed DenBeste: “Heading into today out goal was to have good ball striking. We worked on it a lot Friday at practice. Good to see Matt shoot a one over 72 today on a good course. Ben had a great front of one under but had a few putts that wouldn’t fall on the back and trouble on 16. Great to see him keep it at 3 over. Cyle could have been lower. A lot of putts today. Hit the ball better than his score but still a good score. Mason also played well. Good to see him below 90. This was Austin’s first time on the course. Started rough but came around. Tate had one of his better 18 hole scores today on a long course. Great to see him play better. Next round it will hopefully be in the 90s. Our 319 today is a great score with the wind and cold. This was 5 shots worse than last years district score. Good to see our guy rebound after not playing well this week.”
MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota starter Patrick Fredrickson tossed 7 2/3 shutout innings and three pitchers combined in a 3-0 shutout victory over the University of Iowa baseball team in game two Saturday afternoon at Target Field.
The Gophers clinched a series win, ending the Hawkeyes Big Ten series-winning streak at six. Iowa hadn’t lost a league series since last season when it dropped two of three games against Rutgers.
Fredrickson scattered six hits in his start as he improved to 5-0 this season. Reliever Jackson Rose struck out Robert Neustrom to end the eighth and closer Max Meyer got the final three outs to notch his 10th save.
The Hawkeyes out-hit the Gophers, 8-7, but Iowa grounded into three double plays in the game.
Minnesota grabbed the lead in the third against Iowa starter Brady Schanuel. The Gophers strung together four straight one-out hits, including a two-run single from Eli Wilson. Reliever Nick Nelsen limited the damage after relieving Schanuel and sophomore Grant Judkins was solid over the final five innings.
Judkins allowed one run on three hits and had three strikeouts. The five-inning appearance was a career-high.

The Hawkeyes close out the series Sunday, facing Minnesota at 1 p.m. (CT) at Siebert Field on Minnesota’s campus. The game will be televised live on BTN. Junior Cole McDonald will take the mound for Iowa.
Cardinals Outfielder Tommy Pham was held out of the starting lineup because of flu-like symptoms and also to provide another day off to rest a sore groin. Manager Mike Matheny said Pham was available off the bench, but he did not get into the game. Right-hand-pitcher Luis Castillo starts the final game of a three-game set Sunday in St. Louis, against Cardinals RHP Miles Mikolas. Castillo earned the victory in his first appearance this season, but lasted just five innings in his last two starts in which he took the loss both times. Mikolas will go for his first victory at Busch Stadium since joining the Cardinals in the offseason. He got a no-decision in his only home start this year, a 5-4 loss to Milwaukee.
Mullinax had a course-record 62. He played the back nine in 7-under 29, going 6 under on the last five with eagles on the par-5 14th and 18th and birdies on 16 and 17. He also birdied Nos. 10 and 12 and bogeyed 11. Johnson played the front nine in even par with two birdies and two bogeys. He birdied Nos. 11, 14, 15 and 18 on the back nine. Landry had a bogey-free round. Ryan Moore was two strokes back at 11 under after a 70. Sean O’Hair had a 65 to join 2015 champion Jimmy Walker (67), Chris Kirk (68) and 2013 winner Martin Laird (69) at 9 under.
On 18, Mullinax hit a 3-iron from 255 yards to 15 feet to set up his eagle putt. He broke the course record of 63 set by Matt Every in 201 and matched by Laird in 2013. The tournament record is 60 at LaCantera, by Bart Bryant in 2004 and Johnson in 2009.

Highlights: AHSTW’s Cora Comer won the 100M in 12.98. Heidi Hall won the 1500M for the Lady Vikes. Karley Larson of Underwood won the 3000M and Avery True won the 100 Hurdles. Cecilia Myers won the 400 Hurdles for the Eagles as well. Audubon’s Melissa Deist won the Shot Put.

Highlights: Underwood got a win from Jalen Humphrey in the 800M and Landon Nelson in the Discus. The Eagles also won the Distance Medley. Treynor’s Jerry Jorgensen won the 1600M. Jack Tiarks won the High Jump for the Cardinals.

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference revealed a breakdown of all 14 schools’ opponents for the 2018-19 Big Ten men’s basketball season on Thursday. Conference teams will compete in a 20-game conference schedule for the first time, playing seven teams both home and away and six teams once (three home and three away).
Iowa’s opponents for the upcoming season will include:
Home: Illinois, Maryland, Michigan
Away: Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue
Home/Away: Indiana, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Rutgers, Wisconsin
Beginning with the 2018-19 season, the men will move to a 20-game scheduling format, while the women will move to an 18-game format. On the men’s side, each team will play seven opponents twice (home and away) and six opponents once (three home, three away). The women’s format will see teams play five opponents twice (home and away) and eight opponents once (four home, four away). In total, the new conference schedules will feature 140 men’s games (up from 126 games last season) and 126 women’s games (up from 112 games last season), resulting in an 11% and 13% increase, respectively.
Iowa women’s basketball opponents for the upcoming season will include:
Home: Maryland, Northwestern, Rutgers, Wisconsin
Away: Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State
Home/Away: Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Purdue
