Atlantic’s Alyssa Ginther and Baylee Newell earned trips to the Girls State Golf Tournament through Regional play on Monday in Adel. Atlantic was competing in the Class 3A Regional Tournament at River Valley Golf Course. Ginther advanced by finishing 3rd overall with an 81 on the Par 72 course. Newell finished 5th overall with an 85.
As a team the Trojans won’t get the chance to defend their title. Creston was the team champion with a team total of 341. Centerville was the Runner-Up with a 371. Those two teams will advance to State. Atlantic finished 3rd as a team with a 382 total.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Tyler Austin hit a pair of two-run homers, Sonny Gray pitched eight innings of four-hit ball and the New York Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals 10-1 Sunday to win their eighth consecutive series. Miguel Andujar and Austin Romine added back-to-back homers in the ninth for the Yankees. Eric Skoglund was pounded for six runs over five innings for Kansas City.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The running back who won the Heisman for LSU in 1959 with a memorable Halloween night punt return touchdown against Mississippi has died. Billy Cannon was 80. LSU says Cannon died at his home in St. Francisville. Cannon led the Tigers to a national championship in 1958. The following year, his tackle-breaking 89-yard punt return led LSU to a 7-3 victory over Ole Miss. That helped Cannon win LSU’s only Heisman. He went on to play for the Houston Oilers, Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs.
TOKEKA, Kan. (AP) — Courtney Force reached the Funny Car semifinals Sunday in the Menards NHRA Heartland Nationals before dewy conditions postponed the eliminations at Heartland Motorsports Park. Force, the points leader and No. 1 qualifier, will face J.R. Todd when action resumes Monday.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Odubel Herrera homered and Jorge Alfaro drove in the go-ahead run to propel the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Alfaro was scratched with right knee soreness after originally being in the lineup.
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Clay Millican took the No. 1 qualifying position in the Menards NHRA Heartland Nationals at Heartland Motorsports Park. Millican had a 3.739-second run at 331.12 mph during the third Top Fuel qualifying session of the weekend and first of the day.
Atlantic Boys Tennis Team

The Atlantic boys tennis team is heading to the Class 1A State Final Four for the 5th time in school history. Atlantic advanced with two wins on Saturday in Carroll.
They first won their substate match over Denison-Schleswig 5-0. In the other substate match at the site host Kuemper Catholic swept by Creston 5-0.
Atlantic then defeated Kuemper Catholic in the First Round State match 5-3 to advance to State Final Four Team Tennis on Tuesday, May 29th at Waveland Tennis Courts in Des Moines. Play at state will begin after the coaches meeting that day at 8:15am.
The Atlantic Trojans boys track team had a banner weekend at the 2018 State Track and Field Championships. The Trojans came out of the weekend with 5 State Championships, 8 overall medals, and enough school records to make your head spin. They also came away with the State Runner-Up Title which is the best finish in school history.

The Trojans had a lead in the team race for most of the final day but Marion made a late charge in a few events to grab the team title. It came down to the final race in the 4x400M Relay and Marion did enough to win the team title with a second place finish behind Atlantic in that race.
