Oklahoma St. rallies from 17-points down to beat Iowa St.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) – James Washington caught eight passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns, and Oklahoma State overcame a 17-point second-half deficit to beat Iowa State 38-31 on Saturday afternoon. Washington put the Cowboys ahead for good when he caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Mason Rudolph with 3:40 remaining. Rudolph passed for 351 yards and four touchdowns for Oklahoma State (4-2, 2-1 Big 12).

It was the second consecutive late collapse for Iowa State (1-5, 0-3). The Cyclones were trying to bounce back after a heartbreaking last-second 45-42 loss to No. 13 Baylor last Saturday. The Cyclones were trying to get the first conference victory for first-year coach Matt Campbell.

David Montgomery’s 1-yard touchdown run with 2:58 left in the second quarter put Iowa State up 17-14. The Cyclones nearly doubled time of possession in the first half and ran 55 plays to Oklahoma State’s 32. Joel Lanning threw touchdown passes to Trever Ryen and Allen Lazard to help Iowa State take a 31-14 lead with 5:55 left in the third quarter.

Rudolph threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Washington, then a 1-yard touchdown scoring toss to Jalen McCleskey, to help the Cowboys trim Iowa State’s lead to 31-28 early in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma State’s Ben Grogan made a 30-yard field goal to tie the score at 31 with 11:33 to play.

The Cyclones play at Texas next Saturday. Texas has allowed 50, 49 and 45 points in its past three games.

Hawk-eyesore? Neighbors sue to block home modeled on stadium

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Fitting tribute to Iowa football or Hawk-eyesore? That’s what a judge must decide. Angry neighbors have filed a lawsuit against the Iowa City Board of Adjustment for allowing a couple to proceed with their plan to build a 7,500-square-foot home that will resemble the University of Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium.

Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports that the lawsuit filed Wednesday by the Neighbors of Manville Heights Association requests an injunction to block construction of the home and for the repeal of the city’s building permit allowing it. The house Reed and Sandy Carlson plan to build would look like the Hawkeyes’ 87-year-old stadium, complete with brick siding and a replica of the press box.

The association has expressed concern about the home’s size, the potential for big parties, as well as drainage, fire safety and traffic issues. But the board said the home met all of the city’s guidelines.

Wadley’s big run nudges Iowa past Minnesota in 14-7 grinder

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Akrum Wadley broke off a 54-yard touchdown run with 5:28 left and Iowa hung on to beat Minnesota 14-7 on Saturday. Wadley had 14 carries for 107 yards for the Hawkeyes (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten), who matched the program record with their eighth straight road.

Mitch Leidner completed 13 of 33 passes for 166 yards and was also picked off twice for the Gophers (3-2, 0-2), who were flagged for eight penalties for 58 yards and forced to punt nine times. After Wadley’s score, LeShun Daniels Jr. ran in the 2-point conversion. Leidner threw his second interception on the following possession, but the Gophers got the ball back again with no timeouts and 86 seconds remaining.

Brian Smith’s leaping catch out of bounds at the 13-yard line put them in position to tie the game, but Leidner’s fourth-down throw to Smith on a fade route in the corner of the end zone fell short. Shannon Brooks gave Minnesota a 7-6 lead midway through the third quarter with a 9-yard run. Beathard’s streak with a touchdown pass in nine straight games was stopped.

Next up for Iowa: The Hawks travel to face Purdue, where they’ve won three times in a row and haven’t lost since 2007.

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) – Grant Kraemer threw for three touchdowns, running back Conley Wilkins passed for a score and ran for another, and a late interception helped Drake hold off Valparaiso 35-21 on Saturday. Wilkins threw one pass, an 18-yard TD strike to Zach Zlabis, and rushed for 205 yards on 37 carries. Drake had a 28-21 lead with 5:18 to play when Jimmy Seewald threw a long pass that was intercepted by Jabari Butler. The Bulldogs scored eight plays later on Wilkins’ 8-yard run.

Joey Diaz-Martinez intercepted a second-quarter pass by Kraemer and returned it 49 yards for a score and Valparaiso (2-4, 1-2) converted a fumble by Kraemer into a score with Seewald’s 14-yard TD pass to Frank Catrine in the third quarter.
