Iowa baseball pauses in-person activities

At the direction of the University of Iowa medical team, the Iowa Athletics Department announced Wednesday that the Iowa baseball program is pausing all team related in-person activities in response to positive COVID-19 test results within the program. Iowa will continue to follow Big Ten Conference medical protocols and the medical team will make a determination on return to activity.  

The Hawkeyes will open the 2021 season March 6, facing Michigan in Round Rock, Texas.

5-Hour Oven Stew (2-18-2021)

Mom's Tips

  • Stew meat, cut in 1″ pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato juice
  • 2 tablespoons tapioca
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon instant beef bouillon
  • 1 small onion, cut in chunks
  • 5 medium potatoes (or more)
  • 1 cup carrots, cut in chunks
  • 1 stalk celery, cut in chunks

Put all of the above in covered casserole and cook at 275 degrees for 5 hours.  For soup, add more tomato sauce diluted with water.

Creston man arrested for Parole Violation

The Creston Police Department, Thursday (Today), said 22-year old Kane Allen Michael Farlow, of Creston, was arrested Wednesday afternoon. Farlow was taken into custody in the 300 block of N. Pine Street, on a Parole Violation charge. He was being held without bond in the Union County Jail.

BARBARA JEAN LARSEN, 94, of Exira, died Wed., Feb. 17th, at the Exira Care Center. Funeral services for BARBARA LARSEN will be held 2-p.m. Monday, Feb. 22nd, at the Exira Lutheran Church. Kessler Funeral Home in Exira has the arrangements.

A family visitation will be held from Noon until the time of service, Monday, at the Exira Lutheran Church.

Burial is in the Exira Cemetery.

BARBARA JEAN LARSEN is survived by:

Her daughters – Sandy (Rev. Gordon) Buchholz, Sherrill (Larry) Huffman, all of Audubon.

Her sister – Caroline Waste, of San Diego, CA.

\4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
