News

December 18th, 2017 by Ric Hanson

The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office reports four recent arrests. Friday evening, 34-year old Brent Michael Swisher, of Avoca, was arrested for Violation of a No Contact Order/Contempt of Court. He was taken into custody after a Deputy on patrol was flagged down by man driving a grain truck, that was pulled over on the side of the road. The truck driver informed the deputy two people in a Toyota Camry were fighting. The deputy noticed the vehicle was on the east side of the road, facing south, parked behind the grain truck. After the deputy turned around, the Camry pull off of the east side ditch and cross both lanes of traffic before continuing southbound. He performed a traffic stop and when he approached, observed Swisher inside, and he could smell the odor of alcohol emitting from him. The deputy ran a records check, which indicated Swisher had a valid protection order in effect and was not to have contact with the woman in the vehicle. Swisher admitted the pair had been arguing, and the woman said nothing had happened. Regardless, Swisher was taken into custody for violating the court order.

At around 3:15-a.m. Saturday, a Pott. County Deputy arrested 22-year old Kevin Murillo, of St. Ann, MO.  Murillo was arrested after he made an illegal U-turn on Interstate 29 at mile marker 44. He was charged with Possession of an Illegal Substance (1 gram of marijuana) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (a marijuana grinder).  A traffic stop at around 10:30-a.m. Sunday, resulted in the arrest of 24-year old Colton Rankin, of Omaha, for Driving While Revoked. And, Sunday night, 30-year old Santana Roth McCauley, of Council Bluffs, was arrested at the Pott. County Jail, for Possession of Contraband inside a Jail institution, after a small bag containing a white powdery substance was brought into the facility.
