Accident in Mills County, Tuesday

The Mills County Sheriff’s Office says no injuries were reported following a rollover accident Tuesday morning. A 1998 Chevy driven by 20-year old James Rowe, of Hastings (IA) was traveling south of 330th Street at around 8:40-a.m., and had just crossed the Nishnabotna River bridge south of Oman Avenue, when the vehicle went out of control due to the icy conditions. The vehicle entered the east ditch and rolled onto its top, ending up in a field.

Revised competition schedule set by United World Wrestling for Freestyle World Cup in Iowa City, April 7-8

IOWA CITY, Iowa — United World Wrestling has notified USA Wrestling with an approved revised schedule for the 2018 Freestyle World Cup, hosted by the University of Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on April 7-8.

With Iran and Russia not in the field, and with Mongolia and India added to the event, there are changes in both the pool competition and the order of the bouts.

The two-day tournament is broken down into three pool-play sessions, in addition to a medal round. Every team will compete during each session.

The new schedule has the United States in Pool A against the nations of Japan, Georgia, and India. Pool B consists of teams from Azerbaijan, Cuba, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.

The times of the U.S. duals have not changed from the previous schedule, but the order of the opponents has changed. The USA will face India first, followed by Japan on Saturday, then will battle on Sunday morning against Georgia to complete its pool competition.

The revised event schedule is as follows:

Saturday, April 7

10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Session I

10:00 a.m – USA vs. India on Mat A, Mongolia vs. Kazakhstan on Mat B

11:15 a.m. – Georgia vs. Japan on Mat A, Azerbaijan vs. Cuba on Mat B

2 p.m. – Opening Ceremonies

2:30 p.m. -7:00 p.m.  Session II

2:30 p.m. – USA vs. Japan on Mat A

4:30 p.m. – Mongolia vs. Cuba on Mat B

5:45 p.m. – Georgia vs. India on Mat A, Azerbaijan vs. Kazakhstan on Mat B

Sunday, April 8

10 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. – Session III

10:00 a.m. – USA vs. Georgia on Mat A, Mongolia vs. Azerbaijan on Mat B

11:15 a.m. – Japan vs. India on Mat A, Cuba vs. Kazakhstan on Mat B

12:30 p.m. – 5th Place Match at Mat A, 7th Place Match on Mat B

2:15 p.m. – Bronze Medal Match on Mat A

4 p.m. – Gold Medal Match on Mat A

Accident near Bedford shuts down 2 roads

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office reports emergency crews were on the scene this morning of an accident at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Lake Road, near Bedford. Authorities are asking drivers to stay away from the area, as both roads shut down. Updates will be provided when they are available.

Harlan man turns himself-in to Pott. County Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff’s officials in Pottawattamie County report a Shelby County man wanted on warrants for multiple offenses, turned himself-in to the Sheriff’s Office, Monday. 31-year old Christopher James Watson, of Harlan, was wanted for: Burglary in the 3rd degree; Burglary in the 3rd – motor vehicle related; Theft in the 4th degree; Criminal mischief in the 4th, and Domestic Abuse Assault. After a valid arrest warrant was  confirmed, Watson was transported to the Pott. County Jail and turned over to Corrections staff.

State lawyer: Police chief also can be county supervisor

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa attorney general’s office says the Waterloo police chief can keep that post and serve as a Black Hawk County supervisor, if he were to win election. Chief Dan Trelka said after the opinion was released Tuesday that he was pleased by it and planned to pursue his candidacy. He announced plans last month to run as a Republican in the June 5 primary. Two seats are up for election, and Democrats have held all five seats for several years. So far Trelka is the only Republican to declare his intention.

Assistant Attorney General Michael Bennett says in his opinion that Trelka’s holding both positions “may raise significant conflict of interest issues requiring recusal” when such conflicts arise. Trelka says he would do so.

Atlantic man arrested on Willful Injury warrant

Atlantic Police Chief Dave Erickson reports 22-year old Austin Van Aernam, of Atlantic, turned himself-in to authorities, Tuesday. He was wanted on a Cass County warrant for Willful Injury-Causing Bodily Injury. Van Aernam was booked into the Cass County Jail.

Orient (IA) man arrested on warrants related to Lascivious Acts & Sexual Abuse

Creston Police, early this (Wednesday) morning, arrested 26-year old Jeffrey Schaefer, of Orient, on warrants related to Violation of Probation on original charges of Lascivious Acts with a Child, and Sexual Abuse in the 3rd degree. Schaefer was arrested at around 1:30-a.m. at the Union County Law Enforcement Center (LEC), where he was being held while awaiting a bond hearing. Creston Police report 41-year old Joel Gross, of Creston, was arrested today at around 2:15-a.m., for Public Intoxication. He was being held in the Union County LEC on a$300 bond.

At around 11:45-p.m. Tuesday, 29-year old Kayla Hoffman, of Creston, was arrested on a charge of Criminal Mischief in the 5th degree. She was later released on a $300 bond. And, at around 7:30-p.m. Tuesday, 28-year old Rachel Colburn was arrested in Creston for Domestic Assault. She was being held in the Adams County Jail, while awaiting a bond hearing.

Creston Police said also, at around 10:30-p.m. Tuesday, someone attempted to break into a residence in the 200 block of N. Cedar Street. The front door of the residence sustained about $300 damage.
