WARREN R. BOWMAN, 99, of Audubon, died Tuesday, May 15th, at the Exira Care Center. Funeral services for WARREN BOWMAN will be held 11-a.m. Saturday, May 19th, at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Audubon. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.
Friends may call at the funeral home, with the family visitation taking place at the 1st Presbyterian Church, from 10-a.m. Saturday, until the time of service,
Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.

Two people were arrested on separate charges, Wednesday, in Red Oak. According to Red Oak Police, at around 1:45-p.m., 59-year old Vicki Susan Huber, of Red Oak, was arrested for Theft in the 5th Degree, after allegedly taking a hanging flower basket from the Fareway Store in Red Oak, on Tuesday. Her bond was set at $300. And, just after 4-p.m., Wednesday, 37-year old Christopher Michael Lowrance, of Red Oak, was arrested for Violation of a No Contact Order. His bond was also set at $300.
Three Iowa cities are among the “drunkest” in the country. That’s according to USA Today, which published a list based on factors such as number of bars per capita, binge drinking rates, and alcohol-related fatal crashes. Topping the list is Green Bay, Wisconsin. Iowa City is ranked 13th.
The article notes the home to the University of Iowa “boasts a high concentration of bars and restaurants,” with an estimated 387 places to drink in the area. Dubuque is just behind Iowa City at number-14. Ames is 19th on the list.

Tampa Bay swept the Royals for the first time since four games from Aug. 8-11, 2011, and swept a series in Kansas City for the first time since three games from July 17-19, 2009. Kansas City has lost five straight and seven of eight, dropping to 13-30 for its worst 43-game start since going 10-33 in 2006. The Royals are 6-16 at Kauffman Stadium.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Dexter Fowler reached base four times and drove in two runs in his return to the lineup and the St. Louis Cardinals beat former starter Lance Lynn and the Minnesota Twins 7-5. Matt Carpenter had three hits after being demoted to seventh in the batting order, and Tommy Pham hit his eighth homer.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have placed struggling reliever Luke Gregerson on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder impingement. Gregerson, who signed an $11 million, two-year contract with St. Louis over the winter, has an 8.64 ERA in 12 appearances this season.
CHICAGO (AP) — The U.S. women’s national team has announced that this summer’s Tournament of Nations will be played at stadiums in Kansas, Connecticut and Illinois. The U.S. will host Australia, Brazil and Japan in the tournament, which kicks off at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City on July 26. The four teams will play double-headers at each site, with the winner decided on points.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — A driver and passengers were hurt when their bus slammed into a train trestle in Council Bluffs, ripping off the back of the vehicle. Police say the crash happened about noon Wednesday when the driver of a small transit bus tried to pass beneath the trestle, which is only 8 feet 8 inches above the roadway. The impact tore off the back of the bus. The bus is owned by Notre Dame Housing, an assisted living center in Omaha, Neb. The driver and five passengers received non-life threatening injuries.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa’s lowest-performing schools must do more than show improvement to get off a list of targeted schools under a plan approved by the U.S. Department of Education. U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos informed Iowa that its school accountability plan was accepted Wednesday after revisions made by the Iowa Department of Education.
BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say the woman whose body was found next to a burning car north of Burlington was the wife of the driver. The Des Moines County attorney’s office identified the woman Tuesday as 50-year-old Lisa Wischmeier. Her husband, 57-year-old Bradley Wischmeier, has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide and operating under the influence. His trial is scheduled to begin July 24.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A 79-year-old West Des Moines woman accused of stealing more than $346,000 from her ailing sister has pleaded guilty. Polk County District Court records say the written plea from Jewell Davis was filed Monday to a charge of theft. Her sentencing is set for June 27.

Lynn (1-4) had control issues again, a surprising constant in his first season with Minnesota after six years with the Cardinals. He gave up three runs on four hits and four walks and threw 82 pitches in three innings.
Jordan Hicks (2-1) pitched a scoreless inning in relief for St. Louis. Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas left after 4 2/3 innings after allowing two runs on two hits and two walks.
Bud Norris allowed an inherited run to score on a wild pitch but secured five outs for his ninth save in as many chances.
