The National Weather Service says strong to potentially severe storms are forecast this afternoon and tonight over central to southern Iowa. The main threats will be large hail and damaging wind. In addition to the severe storms potential, heavy rain is likely to accompany these storms this afternoon and tonight. Generally, a half to an inch of rain is expected with a few isolated higher amounts will be possible by late tonight. Lingering storms are anticipated Tuesday morning. Otherwise, a much welcomed dry period is expected Tuesday night through the end of the work week. There is a low chance for storms Thursday afternoon in western Iowa. The storms are expected to fire-up at around 2-p.m. and last through about midnight. 
A marginal risk of severe storms is possible in an area that stretches from about Sidney to Council Bluffs, Atlantic northeast to Ames and Waterloo. A Slight risk exists south and east of that line, with mainly thunder over the remainder of western, northwest, north central and northeast Iowa.
DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — A 64-year-old Dubuque woman who admitted killing her former husband is scheduled to be sentenced Monday. Dubuque County District Court records say Dolores Flynn pleaded guilty last month to voluntary manslaughter, willful injury and assault. Prosecutors dropped the original charge of second-degree murder in exchange for her pleas.
Court documents say Dubuque police found 72-year-old Gary Breckenridge dead on Jan. 4, 2016, at the home he shared with Flynn. Police say Flynn beat Breckenridge with a baseball bat, which officers say they found in a Dubuque ditch.
She’s been examined and treated by psychiatric experts twice since her arrest and had been found competent for trial.
Iowa pounded out 14 hits and avoided a sweep at the hands of Northwestern with a 10-7 victory in Evanston. Freshman Jack Dreyer (dry-ur) picked up his fourth victory on the mound as the Hawkeyes improved to 10-9 in the Big Ten.

Iowa is seventh in the league race and will close out the regular season by hosting last place Penn State beginning Thursday. The top eight teams qualify for the Big Ten Tournament.

It was an emotional weekend for the members of the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Jeff Danker, some of the deputies and the family of slain deputy Mark Burbridge attended the National Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony in Washington, D-C. Danker attended the state ceremony prior to heading to the national capitol. “It’s tough,…you know you’ve got to continue with life, but it’s tough to have all the feelings and all the emotions coming back again, “Danker says. “It’s really great that the state recognizes our fallen law enforcement officers.”
Burbridge-flag
Another Pottawattamie County Deputy who was killed in the line of duty in 1947 was also honored at the state ceremony. Robert McKinley’s name will be on the state memorial along with Burbridge. “It’s great that they are able to recognize these officers that may not have been recognized at the time. They are able to recognize them now and family members can come and the state can show the appreciation for the job that they do,” according to Danker. Its been just more than one year since Burbridge died, and Danker says the department is doing well. “There’s times when you seem like you are doing pretty good and certain things will trigger different memories of Mark and different things like that,'”Danker says.
The man who killed Burbridge was able to use a handcuff key he got from another inmate to free himself. The Pottawattamie County Jail now has a new system designed to find contraband. Sheriff Danker says they just started using it, and so far it has worked well as they try to keep contraband out of the jail. He says trying to keep contraband out is a problem for any facility, whether it be a county jail or state prison. Danker believes this system will help them with the tough job. “It should be able to scan the prisoner coming and hopefully we’ll be able to tell if there is anything hidden on the body that the officers weren’t able to find when they brought them into the facility,” he explained.
He says they are pioneers among the counties in using the system.”We’re the first sheriff’s office to get that. And we are very pleased that the board of supervisors was able to provide the funding for this to be able to do that. Because it really gives us another tool to fight this contraband being brought into our facility,” Danker says. Danker was presented a flag at the state ceremony in honor of Burbridge.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office says a reported incident of domestic abuse, Sunday, resulted in the arrest of a Union County woman. Jo Ann Farlow, of Creston, was arrested at around 9-p.m. for Domestic Abuse Assault. No other information was provided.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports 22-year old Anel Gonzalez-Badillo, of Carter Lake, was arrested Sunday evening. Gonzalez-Badillo was taken into custody on a Possession of Drug Paraphernalia charge, in the 200 block of O Avenue. She was cited into court and released at the scene.
And, Red Oak Police report 42-year old Misty Schalome Currin, of Red Oak, was arrested just before Noon, Sunday, on a charge of Serious Domestic Assault. Currin was being held in the Montgomery County Jail without bond until making an appearance before the magistrate.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Creighton guard Khyri Thomas says he will sign with an agent and remain in the NBA draft, meaning he’ll forfeit his final season of eligibility with the Bluejays. Thomas was the Big East defensive player of the year for the second straight season. Creighton coach Greg McDermott says he’s thrilled for Thomas, who is projected as a first-round pick in a number of recent mock drafts. Creighton had a first-round pick last year in center Justin Patton.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — The nickname that Kevin Harvick was saddled with was supposed to be a playful jab at his occasional temper tantrums. But after setting a NASCAR record by winning for the fifth time in the first 12 races, Happy Harvick is just, well, pretty darn happy. But he still isn’t content, either. Harvick thinks his No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing team can be even better.
Fremont County Sheriff Kevin Aistrope reports that at around 1:45-a.m. today (Monday), Deputies were called to Motel 6 by Percival, for a female running around naked and out of control. Upon arrival deputies located 58 year old Robin Gates of Durham, North Carolina.

Gates was running around nude in the recreational room, inside the Motel 6. She was taken into custody and transported to the Fremont County Law Enforcement Center where she was charged with Disorderly Conduct. Her bond was set at $300.
