The Glenwood Police Department reports 33-year old Derick Clark, of Tabor, was arrested Saturday, for OWI 1st and Driving while revoked. His cash or surety bond was set at $2,000. And, 41-year old Michael Carver, of Glenwood, was arrested Saturday for driving while barred. His cash or surety bond was also set at $2,000.

Iowa high school’s graduating class includes 5 Eagle Scouts

DENVER, Iowa (AP) — Nearly a tenth of a northeast Iowa high school’s small graduating class are Eagle Scouts. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that Denver High School’s class of 2018 had 52 students. Five of them have reached the rank of Eagle Scout through Troop 118 in Denver, Iowa. Karter Krueger, Jonah Dunkin, Trevor Thrum and Brandon Beaty began as Tiger Cubs in first grade. Nicholas Krabbenhoft joined in sixth grade after moving from Alaska.

The five Scouts combined have more than 140 merit badges, have spent more than 150 nights camping and have done more than 1,000 documented hours of community service. Their Eagle Scout project included improving a local baseball and softball field, creating a metal sign for a cemetery, rewiring a church sound system and building a Frisbee golf course.

Monday and Tuesday’s match-ups are officially set. Oregon State and Washington will play an all-Pac-12 elimination game at 1 p.m. CT on Monday, followed by North Carolina-Mississippi State at 6 p.m. CT.

Florida and Texas will fight to keep their respective seasons alive on Tuesday when they meet at 1 p.m. CT, followed by Arkansas-Texas Tech at 6 p.m. CT.

By Tuesday night, only six teams will be left in the College World Series and only two teams will still have a perfect record in Omaha.

NW IA woman arrested for allegedly passing fake $50 bills

The Sac City Police Department reports a woman was arrested Saturday night for allegedly passing fake $50 bills at a convenience store. Police were called at around 10:13-p.m. to the Crossroads convenience store for a report of a female subject passing a counterfeit bill. The investigation determined that the suspect, 43-year old Julie McManigal, of Alta, attempted to pay for merchandise with a counterfeit 50 dollar bills.

Crossroads employee used a counterfeit money detector pen to determine that the bill was counterfeit along with visually observing foreign language printed on the bill.  McManigal was arrested and booked into the Sac County Jail for Forgery, a class D Felony. Her cash bond was set at $5,000.

Iowa State adds James Kane as an assistant coach

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State coach Steve Prohm has added James Kane to his staff as an assistant.

Prohm announced the hiring of Kane, a former assistant of his at Murray State, on Monday.

Prohm, with Kane on his staff, led the Racers to a 104-29 record from 2011-15. Murray State reached the postseason three times, including the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2012.

Kane moved to Dayton after Prohm accepted the head coaching job with the Cyclones three years ago.

Iowa State finished 13-18 in 2017-18, missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time in seven seasons.

Shelby County woman hurt in Cass County accident Sunday morning

A woman from Shelby County suffered injuries to her lower extremities during a single-vehicle accident Sunday morning northwest of Lewis. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says 40-year old Jennifer Peterson, of Harlan, was injured in the accident that happened at around 10:10-a.m., near 540th Lane and Lansing Road. Peterson was traveling east on Lansing Road in a 2000 Ford F150 pickup, when for reasons unknown, the pickup left the road and entered the ditch, where it flipped over. The woman was transported by Medivac Ambulance to the Cass County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Damage to the pickup was estimated to be around $5,000. Deputies cited Peterson for Failure to Maintain Control. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Lewis Rescue and Lewis First Responders and Medivac Ambulance.

Juvenile arrested in Page County on stolen property charge

The Page County Sheriff’s Office says a juvenile male was arrested Saturday, following a report of a stolen UTV. Just before 3-p.m., the Page County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from Tadd Madden, of Shambaugh, who said that he had been gone earlier that day and when he came home, his Kawasaki Mule UTV was gone. Madden said that he had not given anyone permission to use his UTV. Madden said also, that he had also found a bicycle in his yard, that had not been there when he left earlier. Madden called back later to say he had just received a phone call from a friend, who told him he had seen Madden’s UTV northbound on Highway 71, from Shambaugh.

Deputies responding to Shambaugh saw a male juvenile operating a Kawasaki UTV on Highway 71, about two-miles north of Shambaugh.  They initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of 250th Street, and upon confirmation the machine belonged to Madden, arrested the juvenile for possession of stolen property. The male was transported to the Juvenile Detention center in Council Bluffs where he is currently being held pending further court proceedings.

Mills County Sheriff’s report (6/18)

Three people were arrested on separate charges Sunday, in Mills County. The Mills County Sheriff’s Office reports 40-year old Trena Lynn Paczosa, of Malvern, was arrested following a traffic stop on 315th Street at around 1:15-a.m., for OWI/1st offense. At around 11:35-p.m. Sunday, 42-year old Rebecca Ann Gorup, of Omaha, was arrested after the Mills County K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on I-29, for a vehicle with an equipment violation. Upon further investigation, about 4.7-grams of marijuana was located in the vehicle. Gorup, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. And, at 11:55-p.m. Sunday, 25-year old Colton Brian Edward Fricke, of Glenwood, was arrested at 4th and Walnut Streets, for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Gorup and Paczosa were being held in the Mills County Jail on $1,000 bond each. Fricke’s bond was set at $1,300.

STEVEN BUCK, 64, of Tennant, died Saturday, June 16th, at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, in Council Bluffs. A Mass of Christian Burial for STEVEN BUCK will be held 11-a.m. Thursday, June 21st, at St. Mary/Our Lady of Fatima Church in Portsmouth. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home, in Harlan has the arrangements.

Visitation at St. Mary’s is from 5-until 7-p.m. Wed., June 20th, with a Wake Service at 7-p.m.

Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery.

His sons – Chris (Rhonda) Buck, and Craig Buck, all of Tennant, and Cory (Amanda) Buck, of Audubon.

His daughter – Jackie (Roger) Schumacher, of Tennant.

His brothers – Gerald (Kim) Buck, of Shelby; Dana Buck, and Gordon Buck, both of Tennant.

His sister – Connie (Tracey) McMorran, of Bettendorf.

and 16 grandchildren.
