ST. LOUIS (AP) — Albert Pujols took a curtain call for his adoring fans at Busch Stadium after homering against the Cardinals, but Marcell Ozuna connected to lead Dakota Hudson and St. Louis over the Los Angeles Angels 4-2. Pujols hit his 13th home run, a solo drive in the seventh inning. He got a standing ovation as he rounded the bases and the cheers grew louder until Pujols emerged from the dugout and tipped his hat to the sellout crowd.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — C.J. Cron homered and singled in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 5-3. Miguel Sanó and Jake Cave also homered for the Twins, who blew a 3-0 lead in the eighth before pushing ahead for good in the 10th. Eddie Rosario’s double to deep right off Wily Peralta scored Cave for a two-run cushion. Trevor May worked a scoreless ninth and Blake Parker retired the side in the 10th for his 10th save in 11 chances.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Michigan baseball team is feeling right at home in Omaha and the state of Nebraska as its chases the program’s first national title since 1962. Some key moments on the Wolverines’ improbable journey occurred here even before the College World Series. There were the losses 50 miles away in Lincoln that cost them the Big Ten regular-season title. There was the walk-off win in the conference tournament at TD Ameritrade Park that probably saved their spot in the national tournament.

MADISON, Ill. (AP) — Ross Chastain won the NASCAR Truck Series race at The Raceway at Gateway, a week after losing a victory at Iowa when he was disqualified for failing a postrace inspection. Chastain grabbed track position with a gas-only last pit stop in Niece Motorsports’ No. 45 Chevrolet. He finished 0.740 seconds ahead of Todd Gilliland in the 160-lap race on the 1.25-mile oval.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State University has sanctioned one of its sororities for hazing, but few details were disclosed. The Des Moines Register reports the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority has been given a deferred suspension through May 2021 because of the hazing reported by two of its members.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn University says its president, Steven Leath, is leaving after two years on the job. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The digital world’s data must be stored somewhere. Lawmakers want to give Illinois an even chance of ensuring it’s stored here. In its final weeks in May, the Legislature added a package of business-friendly initiatives to state budget legislation now awaiting action by Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker. Chief among them are tax breaks for data centers, often-monstrous facilities that centralize an organization’s information technology operations equipment and store, manage and disseminate data.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A vote to fill a vacant Iowa House of Representatives seat for northwest Ames has been set for later this summer. Gov. Kim Reynolds on Friday announced the special election will be held Aug. 6 to replace former state Rep. Lisa Heddens. Heddens, a nine-term Democrat, resigned from her seat earlier this week to serve on the Story County Board of Supervisors, leaving the House District 46 seat open.
