Police in Creston report the arrest Thursday afternoon, of 30-year old Ryan Michael Weis. The Creston man was taken into custody at his home at around 12:45-p.m., for OWI/1st offense. He was being held in the Union County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Funeral services have been scheduled for both Iowa police officers who were fatally shot in an ambush-style attack early Wednesday morning while they sat in their police vehicles. Des Moines police officials say a visitation for 38-year old Sgt. Anthony Beminio will be held Sunday afternoon in West Des Moines. His funeral is set for Monday morning.

Beminio was killed about 20 minutes after 24-year-old Urbandale Officer Justin Martin was fatally shot less than 2 miles away.  Martin’s funeral is scheduled for 11:40-a.m. Tuesday at the South Calhoun Middle School, in his hometown of Rockwell City. He will be buried at Rosehill Cemetery, a spot on the edge of the community surrounded by farmland.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Get ready for the annual fall ritual of turning back your clocks by one hour, and relish that extra hour of sleep this weekend. Daylight saving time is ending and it’s back to standard time for most people in the United States. The change comes at 2 a.m. local time Sunday, and the shift moves one hour of daylight to the morning from the evening.

Residents of Hawaii, most of Arizona and some U.S. territories don’t need to fiddle with their clocks because those places don’t observe daylight saving time. Daylight saving time returns at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday, March 12.

Remember, when we switch to Standard Time, “Fall back” one hour.

(Update 7:25-a.m.: Right lane open westbound on I-80 but traffic is heavy and slow)

One person has been confirmed deceased as the result of a fiery accident involving two semi tractor-trailers this morning, on Interstate 80 eastbound in Cass County. A second person was transported by Medivac Ambulance to the Cass County Memorial Hospital, in Atlantic. No names have been released. The Atlantic Fire Department was called the scene of the crash just east of the Highway 71 exit near the Nishna River Bridge, at around 5:30-a.m.

The road was completely blocked at the Nishna River bridge and traffic is being re-routed. Eastbound traffic is being directed south at Highway 71 to Highway 83 and then east to Anita. Westbound traffic was down to the right lane only as of 7:25-a.m. but traffic is extremely backed-up.

Initial reports from authorities at the scene indicated one of the semi’s was either partially in the ditch or on the shoulder when it was struck by the second semi. One driver got out, the other driver was still inside his cab.

A reminder for Atlantic residents: Atlantic Police in coordination with the Atlantic Fire Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Cass County Emergency Management Agency, Atlantic Medivac, and the Iowa State Patrol, will be conducting an “Active Intruder” drill today at the Atlantic High School. Officials stress that “There are currently no known threats of violence to any schools or facilities within the area. This is strictly A DRILL.

The drill will begin shortly after 10-a.m., and will include and “ALERT” from the principal’s office, notifying everyone in the building of the “Danger Zone.” Those area affected in the “Danger Zone,” will be practicing “Lockdown/Barricade,” and discussing alternate exits from the classroom.

The principal will continue to “Inform” everyone of any changes to the “Danger Zone.” “Counter,” which was taught in previous lessons, will not be practiced in the first drill. Classrooms not in the “Danger Zone,” will practice the preferred response, “Evacuation.”

To ensure participant safety, certain intersections and roads surrounding the Atlantic High School, specifically the area of E. 14th Street, will be temporarily blocked-off and inaccessible. The closures include: Eastbound traffic on 14th Street from Olive Street; 14th and Roosevelt Streets; 14th and Lincoln Streets; 14th and Mulberry; 14th and Cherry; 14th and Plum, and westbound traffic on 14th Street from Redwood Drive.

A Red Oak man was arrested Thursday night, on a valid Montgomery County warrant for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 34-year old Jesse Donald Trost was taken into custody in the 400 block of N. Highland Avenue, at around 7:30-p.m. He was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa man charged with killing two police officers was having intense money problems and had been found by a judge to hit and financially exploit his mother. Scott Michael Greene was ordered to move out of his mother’s basement hours before the ambush-style attacks on Des Moines Sgt. Anthony Beminio and Urbandale officer Justin Martin. He was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Funeral arrangements have been set for an Iowa officer who was shot to death as he sat in his police car on a suburban Des Moines street. Urbandale police announced Thursday night that the funeral for officer Justin Martin will be held Tuesday at 11:40 a.m. at South Calhoun Middle School in his hometown of Rockwell City. The city of 1,700 is about 75 miles northwest of Des Moines.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton may not be accumulating the type of early-vote advantage lead her campaign wanted, but she continues to maintain an apparent edge over Donald Trump, with roughly one-fourth of all expected ballots cast in the 2016 election. Ballot requests from likely supporters have been weak in parts of the Midwest, and African-American turnout has fallen, too. Still, the tens of millions of early votes cast also point to strength from Democratic-leaning Latino voters.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — A judge has denied a request for a new trial by a Dubuque man convicted of killing his daughter. The Telegraph Herald reports that Iowa District Court Judge Michael Shubatt on Thursday denied the request by 63-year-old Robert Stern. Stern was convicted earlier this year of first-degree murder in the June 2015 shooting death of 27-year-old Kimberly Stern.
