DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Kim Reynolds’ office is acknowledging it does have a written complaint detailing sexual harassment allegations against a longtime ally whom she fired. The office said earlier it had no such document in response to a public records request seeking correspondence related to the allegations against Iowa Finance Authority Director David Jamison. After the AP reported about that denial, Reynolds’ aides said later they were mistaken and they did receive a written complaint March 23.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa lawmakers may vote on a bill on medical marijuana in the coming days, although it’s unclear if there’s enough time before the session ends. A Senate committee voted 11-3 on Monday to advance a bill to eliminate a cap on THC in the cannabis oil that goes on sale Dec. 1 in five Iowa dispensaries. The bill would also exempt cannabis oil from sales tax and expand eligible medical conditions to any that a doctor says is medically beneficial.

BOONE, Iowa (AP) — Police say officers shot and killed a man in Boone after he charged at them while holding a knife. Boone police on Monday released a description of events leading up to the Saturday shooting death of 48-year-old Timothy Wayne Anderson. Police say officers were called to a home and could hear shouting when they arrived. When officers tried to enter, Anderson ran out. After he ignored orders to drop the knife, police say “multiple” officers shot and killed the man.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Firefighters are working to extinguish a wildfire that burned roughly 300 acres near the Missouri River in western Iowa. The Omaha World-Herald reports the fire that burned on Sunday has been contained, but it continued to smolder on Monday.

Officials with the Cass County Health System report the Emergency Drive at Cass County Memorial Hospital will be closed for about one week for resurfacing.  The closure will begin the morning of Tuesday, April 24th. All traffic will need to approach the Emergency Department and Rehabilitation Services Parking Lot C by using the Main Entrance at the corner of 10th Street and Hospital Drive, and driving around the back of the building. Drivers are reminded to be alert for pedestrians as they drive around the building.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Villisca man on Monday. At 11:25am the Sheriff’s Office arrested 26-year-old Jesse A. Luft ,of Villisca, in the 100 block of North U Avenue in Villisca. He was arrested on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault (Simple Misdemeanor) following an incident that occurred in the 100 block of West 2nd Street in Villisca.

Luft was taken to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center and held without bond until he appears before the Magistrate. Luft was also issued a citation for Trespassing.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Firefighters are working to extinguish a wildfire that burned roughly 300 acres near the Missouri River in western Iowa. The Omaha World-Herald reports the fire that burned on Sunday has been contained, but it continued to smolder on Monday.

The fire started near Council Bluffs and covered more than 2 miles of brush and trees to the Veterans Memorial Bridge that connects to south Omaha. The fire also damaged an all-terrain vehicle park that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources manages.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

We have more information about an officer-involved fatal shooting in the central Iowa town of Boone. Authorities say Officers with the Boone Police Department responded to a 911 call about an active domestic abuse situation at 620 2nd Street, in Boone.The female caller said 48-year old Timothy Wayne Anderson, of Boone, was in the house threatening her and another person with a knife.

Boone Police Chief John Wiebold says the man attacked responding officers with the knife. Officers attempted to retreat out of the home while Anderson ran out of the home at them. Despite repeated calls from Officers for Anderson to drop the knife, he failed to comply. That’s when the officers shot and killed the man.

Multiple officers fired their weapons during the incident. Six Boone Police officers are now on paid leave while the incident is under investigation. Chief Wiebold would NOT say if all six officers fired their weapons. The Officers were identified as Capt. Lonnie Hikiji, Officers Daniel Lynch, Joseph Slight, Conner McCuen, Cole Hilsabeck and Seth McCrea.

The incident remains under investigation by the Boone P.D. and Iowa DCI. The results of the investigation will be turned over to the Boone County Attorney’s Office for review.

The Mills County Sheriff’s Office today (Monday) released a report on arrests. At around 6:40-a.m. today, 33-year old Christopher Allen Lundgren, of Omaha, was arrested for Driving Under Suspension and and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sunday afternoon, 18-year old Brodie Joseph Crockett, of Malvern, was arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance. Also arrested Sunday, was 27-year old Tyler James Paulson, of Malvern. He was charged with Public Intoxication.

And, there were three arrests on Saturday: 50-year old John Merrill Meyers, of Glenwood, was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Harassment 2^nd, Interference with Official Acts and Public Intoxication; 56-year old Windy Jill Monjarez, of Omaha, was arrested for Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon; and 23-year old Brandon Michael Wiles, of Bellevue, NE, was arrested for OWI 1^st  offense.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds issued an order to begin establishing a children’s mental health service system in the coming years. Reynolds signed an executive order Monday creating a state board, calling it a “first step.” The board will submit recommendations on how Iowa can better serve children in the state’s “inadequate” mental health system.

The board will be made up of mental health professionals, state agency representatives, lawmakers and others. Reynolds said it will build on efforts by previous groups. A similar process resulted in bipartisan legislation Reynolds signed last month to expand mental health systems for adults.

Reynolds said initial funding for the children’s system might be found within existing funds. She said “at some point” the effort would require additional money. The expanded adult services are expected to cost more than $31 million in the first two years.

WINTERSET, Iowa (AP) — Sentencing has been delayed for the third person involved in setting fire to a historic Madison County covered bridge featured on the cover of the novel “The Bridges of Madison County.”
Court records say 18-year-old Alexander Hoff now will be sentenced on May 18. He’d been set for sentencing Monday after pleading guilty to arson and criminal mischief for the fire last April.

Two other people involved already have been sentenced to five years of probation. They are Joel Davis and Alivia Bergmann. The bridge near Winterset also was featured in the 1995 movie adaptation of “The Bridges of Madison County.”

Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Kennon reminds area residents and motorists, that a bridge construction project on U.S. Highway 71 over Lone Tree Creek, 3.1 miles south of Atlantic and 0.1 miles south of Cass County Road G-35, required closing of the roadway to traffic from now until later this summer. The official detour will route traffic using Hwy 92, Hwy 148 and Hwy 83.

Around 16-thousand (16,000) patients are receiving notices that their personal and health information may have compromised in a cybersecurity attack on UnityPoint Health. According to a public notice from UnityPoint Health – which has locations in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin – the phishing attack was discovered in February.

UnityPoint officials say they took immediate action to secure email accounts affected by the breach, but impacted individuals should review their account statements for possible fraudulent activity. People can learn if their emails were affected by the breach by calling UnityPoint Health at 855-331-3612.
