The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Western Guthrie County in west central Iowa…
Audubon County in west central Iowa…
Southeastern Crawford County in west central Iowa…
Southwestern Carroll County in west central Iowa…

* Until 730 AM CDT.

* At 130 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Two to three inches of rain
have already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Audubon, Manning, Exira, Adair, Elk Horn, Arcadia, Casey,
Templeton, Kimballton, Westside, Dedham, Halbur, Brayton, Gray,
Aspinwall, Manning Municipal Airport and Audubon County Airport.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the
warned area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Tonight: A 40% chance of showers & thunderstorms, mainly after 8pm. Mostly cloudy. Low around 69. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
Monday: Partly sunny, w/a 30% chance of showers & thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. High near 87. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
Monday Night: A 60% chance of showers & thunderstorms. Low around 66.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 78.

Rainfall overnight at the KJAN studios through 6-a.m. today, amounted to .84″. Saturday’s High was 87. Our 24-hour Low ending today at 7-a.m. was 59. Last year on this date, our High was 73, and the Low was 51. The All-Time Record High in Atlantic on Aug. 20th was 100 in 1947, and the All-Time Record Low was 36 in 1897.

…MORE STRONG WIND EXPECTED…

Showers behind the main line of storms are now moving across southern Iowa. Non-thunderstorm wind gusts between 35 mph to around 50 mph are possible. Areas affected by this second band of showers and wind extend from Mount Ayr to Bedford and north to between Carroll and Adel. Loose yard objects will be susceptible
to being moved or tossed about.

Weather service says 2 tornadoes hit northwestern Iowa

MELVIN, Iowa (AP) — The National Weather Service is confirming two tornadoes struck Friday night in northwestern Iowa. Sioux Falls meteorologist Matthew Dux says an EF-1 tornado with sustained 90 mph winds touched down in cropland around the Iowa-Minnesota border just south of Bigelow, Minnesota, around 7:50 p.m. Friday. He says another tornado hit about an hour later around Melvin, damaging crops and at least one farm.

Dux says no one was injured. Dux says a weather service survey team was at Melvin on Saturday to gather more information about the strength of that tornado.
