The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office has released a report on arrests and incidents dating back to Aug. 21st:

• At around 2:30-a.m. today (Sept. 9th), 22-year old Edward Bourg was arrested for OWI/1st offense, following a report of a vehicle possible stuck in a field in the 15,000 block of Wabash Avenue, in Council Bluffs.
• 27-year old Kellon Joseph Ausdemore was arrested for OWI/1st offense at around 12:54-a.m. Monday, following a traffic stop near Neola.
• Late Sunday night, 37-year old Nicholas James Hook was arrested for OWI/1st offense, after a truck was found in a ditch near 21444 Old Lincoln Highway, in Council Bluffs.
• Sunday evening, 41-year old Michael Aaron Drefs was arrested for OWI/1st offense, following a traffic stop near Underwood.
• Late Saturday night, 24-year old Marques D’Angelo Dixon was arrested for Theft in the 5th Degree, following a traffic stop for speeding on I-29 near Council Bluffs. The Theft charge is with regard to motor vehicle parts or accessories found during the investigation.
• A little after midnight on Sept. 4th, 28-year old Alysha A. Padworny was arrested following a traffic stop in Council Bluffs, on a vehicle with a defective headlight. Padworny was taken into custody for Harassment in the 3rd Degree.
• On Sept. 3rd: 38-year old Amberleah Jean Mendoza was arrested for Driving While Barred/Habitual Offender, following a traffic stop in Council Bluffs; 37-year old Mindy Michelle Watts was arrested at the Pott. County Jail, on an active warrant for Violation of Probation; 47-year old Chad Anthony Martens, of Council Bluffs, was arrested Sept. 3rd at the Pott. County Jail, on a warrant for Eluding a Police Officer. Martens remains in the jail on $25,000 bond associated with the warrant, and other, previous charges; 29-year old Michael Scott Caruso was arrested Sept. 3rd, for OWI/1st offense, following an accident investigation with property damage, near Treynor.
• On Sept. 2nd, 30-year old Cameron Michael Manteufel was arrested in Council Bluffs, for OWI/1st offense.
• On Sept. 1st: a 16-year old male was arrested for Burglary in the 1st Degree w/bodily injury; 53-year old Richard Avon Reams, of Council Bluffs, was served with a warrant at the Pott. County Jail, for Violation of Probation. He remains held without bond in the jail; 24-year old Eric David Rock, of Minden, was arrested in Oakland, for Burglary in the 3rd Degree and Theft in the 3rd Degree, in connection with a theft report taken from the Oakland Country Club. Several stolen golf-related items were located at a nearby residence; Also arrested Sept. 1st, was 29-year old Zachary Daniel Harris. He was served at the Pott. County Jail with two warrants (out of Nebraska & Texas) for being a Fugitive from Justice..
• And, on Aug. 31st, 18-year old James Kenneth Johnson was arrested on a warrant for Burglary in the 1st Degree/with bodily injury. Johnson turned himself-in to authorities and was booked into the Pottawattamie County Jail.

Cass County Auditor Dale Sunderman is joining Secretary of State Paul Pate, in encouraging Iowans to register to vote or update their registration, in conjunction with National Voter Registration Month, which runs through September 30. Additionally, Tuesday, September 22 is National Voter Registration Day. Sunderman says “If you have never registered and are at least 17 years of age and want to take part in an election, you need to register before you may vote.  If you are already registered, you do not need to re-register unless something has changed since you registered – such as change of address or change of name.”

The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) established September as National Voter Registration Month in 2002 as a non-partisan means of encouraging voter participation and increasing awareness about state requirements and deadlines for voting. Secretary Pate says “As we get closer to Election Day, it’s important for all Iowans who want to take part in the process to make their they are registered to vote and their information is up-to-date. I encourage all eligible Iowans to be voters.”

To register to vote in Iowa, you must be at least 17 years old. The deadline to pre-register before the 2020 general election is October 24. Approximately 90 percent of eligible Iowans are registered and there are more than two million active registered voters in the state.  To check your voter registration status, to register to vote, or to update your information, visit VoterReady.Iowa.gov or contact your County Auditor.

Officials with Rural Community Solutions in Atlantic report a minimal-contact, drive-through voter registration event will be held in Atlantic, from 9-a.m. until Noon one week from this Saturday, in the parking lot of Iowa Western Community College. If you are currently not registered to vote, have never registered to vote, and/or will be 18 years of age on or before Election Day, Nov. 3rd, stop by the Voter registration drive on September 19th.

The completely non-partisan activity is coordinated by four Atlantic women: Kimberlee Spillers, Mary Loe, Jan Lunde, and Ellen Sokolowski.  The group says “We had not heard of anyone holding this type of event, so we decided to make it happen. We are grateful to Iowa Western Community College for giving us permission to use the parking lot. It’s location, visibility, easy access, and ability to be a one-way drive-thru, makes it the perfect place. Plus, being across the street from the very busy ‘Udderly Delicious’ ice cream stand should get some attention!”

Here are event details:
❖ “Register to Vote” signs will be placed on 7th and Walnut Streets to call attention to passing
traffic.
❖ Applicants are asked to drive into the northeast entrance to IWCC off Walnut Street.
❖ You will need your driver’s license or voter PIN number to complete the form.
❖ Masked volunteers will come to your car window and hand you a clipboard with a voter
registration form. You will be given a pen to use, or may use one of your own.
❖ If desired, an applicant may also complete an absentee ballot request form.
❖ Once completed, the registrant will return the form/s, clipboard, and pen to the volunteer.
❖ The applicant drives out through the southeast or south exits.
❖ The clipboards and pens will be wiped after each use and the volunteer will sanitize their hands
before helping the next applicant.

The group says with “National Voter Registration Day September 22nd, [the] event is perfectly placed. We have checked with the Cass County Auditor’s Office to ensure all is being done correctly. All completed forms will be turned into the auditor’s office immediately. We are very excited for this opportunity to help people register to cast their ballot for the candidates of their choosing. Voting is an honor for everyone in our country and we are proud to enable new applicants to take their place as fully registered voters.”

Please note: you will not be able to vote at this event; it is only to register people to vote. Voting ballots will be mailed from the Cass County Auditor’s office October 5th to people who have requested absentee ballots. (Radio Iowa) – The state is looking for another company to produce medical marijuana products. The manager of the program, Owen Parker, says state law allows for two licenses to produce medical marijuana products. “Iowa Relief was our second manufacturer — but they actually relinquished their license on June 2nd of this year and decided not to renew it for this next licensing period,” Parker says. MedPharm was the first company to acquire a license to manufacture, and Parker says they will continue to supply dispensaries. “Medpharm is currently a vertically integrated manufacturer — meaning they have a manufacturing facility and two dispensaries. And we have had no issues with maintaining supply to patients,” he says.

He says they hope to be able to select a second company in November. He says applicants need to submit a letter of intent to apply by October 9th and then have until October 23rd to work on their applications and submit a fee. Parker says it will take around one month to review applications and they hope to award the license on November 20th. The timeline would have the new medical marijuana business up and running by late next year. “We are hoping that that manufacturer would be up and running by July 21st of 2021,” according to Parker.

Parker is not sure what type of response they may get. He says the first request saw MedPharm as the only applicant and the second round they had six applicants. The medical cannabis program began selling products in Iowa on December 1st of 2018.
