WAYNE B. RICE, 97 of Atlantic (formerly of Hamburg) died Thursday, November 5th at the Heritage House in Atlantic. Funeral services for Wayne Rice will be held Thursday, November 12th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamburg, Iowa.  Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg is in charge of the arrangements.

Burial will be in Mt. Zion-Utterback Cemetery near Riverton, IA.

WAYNE RICE is survived by:

Son:  Tom (Marjorie) Rice of Arena, Wisconsin.

Daughter:  Kathy (Fred) Fiddelke of Robins, Iowa.

3 Grandsons.

Numerous recent arrests in Creston

(7-a.m. Newscast) – The Creston Police Department has been busy, lately. Officials report six recent arrests. Sunday night, 25-year old Macayla Rae Paulson, of Shenandoah, was arrested at the Creston Walmart, for Theft in the 5th Degree. Paulson was issued a citation and released at the scene. Sunday afternoon, 39-year old Abraham John Schweers, of Lenox, was arrested at the Creston Walmart, on charges of Theft in the 5th Degree and Trespassing. He also cited and then released from the scene. And, 35-year old Robert Eugene Kibbe III, of Creston, was arrested at New Hope Group(Alcoholics Anonymous) on W. Clark Street, for Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct. His cash or surety bond was set at $600.

Saturday afternoon, 37-year old Clay Ryan Pettit, of Mt. Ayr, was arrested at 408 S. Sumner Street, in Creston, for Possession of a Controlled Substance/2nd offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His cash or surety bond was set at $2,300. A little after 2-a.m. Saturday, 35-year old Manuel Luke Richardson, of Creston, was arrested at his residence for Assault, and Domestic Abuse Assault/1st offense. He later posted bond. And, at around 12:20-a.m. Saturday, 24-year old Keegan Wayne Williams, of Creston, was arrested for Disorderly Conduct/fighting or violent behavior, and Interference with official acts. His cash/surety bond was set at $300 plus 10%, and $300 cash or surety.

And, there were two reports of vehicle theft in Creston. Friday morning, a woman reported her silver 2014 4-door Hyundai Accent was stolen from near her residence in the 300 block of N. Oak Street. And, Friday night, a woman reported her silver Kia Sorento EX was stolen from near her residence in the 700 block of N. Mulberry Street. The total value of the vehicles was $20,000.

Emergency personnel searching for missing Shelby County child

Original post: The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed with KJAN News, that emergency crews are searching for a missing two and one-half year old male child in an area east of Panama. The family woke up to find the child gone from the area near 609 1600th Street. Firefighters from Panama were paged out to assist in the search at around 4:30-a.m.  Crews from Earling and Westphalia and Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies are also on the scene. Additional information is currently not available.

Iowa COVID-19 update for Nov. 9 2020: Over 4,200 new Positive cases; 3 more deaths

Iowa’s Coronavirus dashboard (as of 10-a.m., Monday), indicated three more deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 since Sunday’s report, for a total of 1,845. The number of deaths attributed to a pre-existing conditions statewide are 1,199, while deaths at Long-Term Care facilities amount to 890, which is unchanged from Sunday.

Officials say there are 4,212 new confirmed cases of the virus, for a total since the pandemic began, of 156,816. Cass County has four more Positive cases of COVID, for a total of 583. Double-digit Positive case increases were reported in Mills and Pottawattamie Counties.

The number of Long-Term Care facility (LTC) outbreaks remain 92. Those care facilities report 2,862 positive cases and 1,207 recoveries.   In Cass County, three facilities: Atlantic Specialty Care, The Heritage House, and the Griswold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, have a combined total of 144 positive cases, with 34 recovered [75 at Atlantic Specialty Care, 55 at Griswold Rehab & Health Care Center, and 14 at the Heritage House]. Harrison County has 298 cases among three facilities, and 210 recovered.  (For more data, go to https://coronavirus.iowa.gov/)

A record number of Iowans are hospitalized with COVID-19. Hospitalizations were up from 992 on Sunday to 1,034 today. COVID patients in an ICU amount to 184 (compared to 190 Sunday). Persons admitted to a hospital since 10-a.m. Sunday number 152 (Compared to 181 on Sunday), and there are 82 persons on a ventilator, compared to 77 on Sunday. In western/southwestern Iowa: there are 65 COVID patients in the hospital (compared to 59 Sunday); 21 are in an ICU (1 more than yesterday), Six people were admitted (Compared to 4 Sunday), and there are currently four people on a ventilator (2 more than yesterday). Iowa has approximately 2,800 available inpatient beds, with 382 ICU beds and 729 ventilators available.

The health department reports 1,040,914 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19. The state received 10,700 lab test results in the previous day, with 2,952 Positive results and 7,964 Negative results (total Negative to-date: 882,347). The IDPH says 101,041 Iowans have recovered from the virus. The State’s Individual Positivity rate is up to 15.1%, and the 14-day rolling average is up to 20.1%. Out of Iowa’s 99 counties, 50 have a positivity rate of 20% or greater. The highest counties are Jones, with 42.7%, and Wayne, with 40.2%. Both are in eastern Iowa. Page County’s rate is 33.7% (the highest in southwest Iowa). Taylor County has a positivity rate of 26.3%. Shelby County 23.4%

MAXINE McGINNIS, 98, of Stuart, died Saturday, Nov. 7th, at the Stuart Community Care Center. A Funeral Mass for MAXINE McGINNIS will be held 1-p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12th, at the All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart has the arrangements. The family kindly asks that cologne or perfume NOT be worn, due to allergy sensitivities.

Visitation at the church will be held from Noon until 1-p.m., Thursday.

Burial is in the Greenfield Cemetery.
