(Radio Iowa) – A schedule change at the Crossover Classic in Sioux Falls means the UNI men will have a new opponent for Wednesday’s opening round. The Panthers will now play Western Kentucky after being originally scheduled to play West Virginia. The Panthers have three starters back from a team that won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title but several young players will be counted on for significant minutes.

That’s UNI coach Ben Jacobson, who says the young players will be counted on to provide depth.

Drake prepares to open basketball season at Kansas State Wednesday afternoon

(Radio Iowa) – Drake is motivated by low expectations as they get set to open the season Wednesday afternoon at Kansas State. The Bulldogs are picked to finish in the lower half of the Missouri Valley Conference and one of the reasons is the loss of center Liam Robbins. The Davenport native transferred to Minnesota after a sophomore season in which he averaged more than 14 points and seven rebounds in being named All-Valley.

That’s Drake coach Darian DeVries who feels the Bulldogs have become an established program. They posted 24 wins and 20 wins in his first two years as coach.

DeVries says playing K-State is a great way to open the season.

Junior guard D.J. Wilkins says the Bulldogs hope to prove the pre-season polls wrong.

Iowa’s Monica Czinano previews the basketball season

Sports

November 23rd, 2020 by Ric Hanson

(Radio Iowa) – Big things are expected from junior center Monica Czinano for a young Iowa women’s basketball team this season. Czinano finished second in the nation in field goal percentage last season at 68 percent in being named All-Big Ten. She spent the off season trying to improve her foot work and rebounding.

Czinano spent much of last season plagued by foul trouble and she is hoping to limit that this season.

The addition of six-three freshman Sharon Goodman will provide more depth in the post this season when foul trouble occurs.

The Hawkeyes open at home on Wednesday night against Northern Iowa.

‘Technical difficulties’ sign on Iowa DOT’s website

News

November 23rd, 2020 by Ric Hanson

(Radio Iowa) – There’s a sign on the Iowa Department of Transportation’s website, acknowledging “technical difficulties.” The Iowa D-O-T’s Andrea Henry says the private company that provides the online capacity for the agency’s website is dealing with a ransomware attack on its system.  “We utilize a hosting vendor and they have had a major outage,” she says, “so we have been working with them since last Monday to get that website restored.”

Henry says the data stored on the D-O-T’s website does not appear to be affected. “We’ve been assured that there has been no compromise to any of our data, information or anything that lives on our website,” Henry says. The entire Iowa D-O-T website is down. “However, we do have a temporary site at our usual address, which is www.iowadot.gov, and we’re able to connect you to some of the most time-sensitive services,” Henry says, “such as making appointments for drivers license services, online renewal, renewal of license plates and some motor carrier services as well.”

Henry says there’s also a chat feature on the website, to get other questions answered during normal business hours. It could be next week before the D-O-T’s website is fully functioning again. “We are, of course, approaching the outage carefully to make sure that there’s no continued security concerns, so we’re hoping to have it up in the next day or two,” Henry says. “However, with the Thanksgiving holiday, it may continue into next week.”

Managed.com, the Iowa D-O-T’s web hosting company, shut down all its servers last Monday to prevent the malware from spreading to all it clients.
