The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest Thursday of 27-year-old Daniel Brian Foote of Essex on a charge of OWI 2nd Offense. Foote was arrested in the 1700 block of Broadway Street in Red Oak. He was taken to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $2,000 bond.
MARYVILLE, Missouri – The No. 1-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men’s basketball team shot a sizzling 67.8% from the floor in a 95-59 rout of the visiting University of Nebraska at Kearney Lopers in Bearcat Arena.
The triumph gave Northwest its 20th win of the season, marking the 10th consecutive season the Bearcats have reached 20 or more victories. It’s the 10th 20-win season for head coach Ben McCollum equaling the school record of 10 20-win seasons set by Steve Tappmeyer.
Northwest (20-1 overall) shot a blistering 20-of-30 from the field (66.7%) in the opening half and followed it up with an even better 20-of-29 (69.0%) in the second half. The Bearcats drained 12-of-22 from three-point range that featured an equal 6-of-11 in each half.
Bearcat junior guard Diego Bernard put on a stat-stuffing performance with a game-high 21 points, seven assists, six rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Bernard went 9-of-13 from the field, which featured 3-of-5 from three-point range.
As good as Bernard was, his cast of teammates surrounding him were equal to the task. Sophomore Luke Waters continued his torrid shooting by going 6-of-7 from the field and was a perfect 3-of-3 from deep to tally 15 points. Senior Ryan Hawkins was 6-of-9 from the field with 14 points, while junior Trevor Hudgins knocked in seven of 11 field goals for 14 points. Freshman Daniel Abreu contributed with career-highs in points (11) and rebounds (5).
Northwest buried 12 of its first 14 shots and built a commanding 27-6 lead. Northwest would eventually lead 32-8 at the 8:58 media timeout. The Bearcats cruised to a 48-20 halftime lead.
The Bearcats continued their assault on the hoop in the second half and led by as many as 40 at 89-49.
Northwest will finish the regular season Saturday at home in Bearcat Arena against the Fort Hays State Tigers. Northwest and Fort Hays State will tip at 3:30 p.m., following the women’s contest.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson gave Luka Garza fits around the basket, and Franz Wagner scored 21 points to lead No. 3 Michigan to a 79-57 victory over No. 9 Iowa. The Wolverines passed yet another test against a highly ranked opponent after beating No. 4 Ohio State last weekend. Dickinson more than held his own against Garza in a much-anticipated matchup of two standout big men. Garza led the Hawkeyes with 16 points, but he shot 6 of 19 from the field. Dickinson scored 14 points.
(Radio Iowa) – After an email chain about President Trump sparked controversy, the dean of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry is stepping down from the post in June. Last October, Dr. David Johnsen co-signed an email to dental school staff and students that criticized President Trump’s executive order banning diversity training. A conservative student responded to the email. The student was notified the next month that he had to attend a professional misconduct review hearing.
The hearing was cancelled after Republican legislators raised concerns on the student’s behalf. The dental school dean publicly apologized for the incident during a legislative oversight hearing earlier this month. The controversy was not mentioned in the announcement that Johnsen was stepping down as dean at the end of the semester. Johnsen had planned to retire in June of 2022 and he’ll serve as a pediatric dental professor in the next academic year.

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (AP) — A 34-year-old Kansas has been convicted of killing his girlfriend in Iowa in 2018. Zackery Bassett, of Elwood, Kansas, was found guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder in the September 2018 death of 50-year-old Andrea Solokowski, in Webster City, Iowa. Bassett was originally charged with first-degree murder in the case. Prosecutors said Bassett had abused and stalked Solokowski, of Sioux City, for more than a year before her death.
An autopsy found injuries consistent with asphyxiation but Solokowski’s cause of death was listed as undetermined. The maximum sentence possible for second-degree murder is 50 years in prison. Bassett is scheduled to be sentenced April 5.
(Radio Iowa) – Governor Kim Reynolds says a new state website will be available, starting tomorrow (Friday), with information on COVID-19 vaccines, who is eligible to get a shot and links to providers giving shots. “But I want to be clear, you cannot schedule an appointment on this site or register to be contacted when scheduling is available,” Reynolds said, “but it will connect you to a provider for scheduling in their system.”
A private company built the www.vaccinate.iowa.gov website this past week, after Reynolds cancelled a contract with Microsoft for a website that would have helped Iowans schedule shots. The new website will have a “vaccine locator.” “You can find providers near you, click through to their websites to check availability and get details about scheduling,” Reynolds says. State officials say the website will be functional for smart phones as well as laptops and other computers. In addition, a call-in system is being set up to help Iowans age 65 and over who’ve been unable to schedule vaccinations.
The governor says operators answering calls to 2-1-1 will begin that service the week of March 8th. “In the meantime, some vaccine navigators will start tomorrow by contacting older Iowans who have reached out to their Area Agencies on Aging,” Reynolds says. The governor says the agencies have taken calls from “hundreds” of older Iowans who need help getting scheduled for a shot. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 622-thousand doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been administered to Iowans — and nearly 53 percent of Iowans over the age of 65 have had at least their first dose.
“The progress we’ve made over the last several weeks is pushing us toward a turning point in our Covid-19 recovery,” Reynolds says, “and I’m committed to continuing this forward momentum in Iowa.” Reynolds says it’s expected that 70-percent of the Tier One populations in Iowa will have gotten at least one dose, which includes first responders, K-12 teachers and child care workers. She says the state’s planning ahead for the -next- group.
“Essential workers and individuals with disabilities living in home settings are expected to start vaccination in early March and achieve the 70% mark in early April,” Reynolds says. “At that time, we could again expand to the next eligible group.” The governor says doses of the third vaccine, made by Johnson and Johnson, will begin arriving in Iowa next week, with an initial shipment of nearly 26-thousand doses. It will require only a single vaccination, with no follow-up booster shot. The State of Iowa is scheduled to receive more than 91-thousand first doses of vaccines next week for distribution to counties.
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has released the game times and television outlets for the 2021 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament that will be played March 9-13 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
BTN will televise the first-round game at 5 p.m. (ET) Tuesday, March 9, as well as the first two second-round games on Wednesday, March 10 (at 11 a.m. ET and 25 minutes following the completion of the first game).
FS2 then takes over as the presenting television outlet and will show the remaining two second-round games on March 10, along with the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 11 and semifinals on Friday, March 12. This will mark the first time that tournament games will be televised nationwide on FS2.
All games televised on BTN and FS2 may also be seen on the FOX Sports app.
The Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament championship game tips off at 2 p.m. (ET) Saturday, March 13 and will be televised on ESPNU and the ESPN app.
Maryland is the defending tournament champion, winning its fourth title in 2020 with an 82-65 victory over Ohio State. OSU will not compete in this year’s Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament due to a self-imposed postseason ban.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has released the game times and television outlets for the 2021 Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament presented by SoFi that will be played March 10-14 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Big Ten Network will televise the tournament’s first 10 games, with coverage spanning the first round of the tournament through the quarterfinals. CBS Sports will once again broadcast the semifinals and final to a national audience on the CBS Television Network.
The tournament is slated to tip off at 6:30 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday, March 10, followed by a second game that starts 25 minutes after the completion of the first contest. The second round of the tournament will take place on Thursday, March 11, and features four games played between two sessions, with the first session tipping off at 11:30 am (ET) and the second session beginning at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
On Friday, March 12, BTN will wrap up its coverage by broadcasting the tournament’s quarterfinal round. Like the second round, the quarterfinals will feature four games played between two sessions, with the first session beginning at 11:30 am (ET) and the second session starting at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
CBS Sports will serve as a tournament broadcast partner for the 24th consecutive year and is set to air the semifinals and final on Saturday, March 13, and Sunday, March 14.
The first semifinal will tip off at 1 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, March 13, with the second semifinal beginning 25 minutes following the conclusion of the first game.
The Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament championship game tips off at 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, March 14, and will be followed by CBS’ Selection Show which airs at 6 p.m. (ET).
All BTN on-air games can be streamed via the web, smartphones, tablets and connected devices through the FOX Sports App, while the CBS Sports broadcasts will also be available to stream live on Paramount+.
