AHSTW looks to keep the ball rolling at Earlham

Sports

September 27th, 2018 by admin

The AHSTW Vikings are undefeated at 5-0 and they hope to keep that streak going with a road trip to face the Earlham Cardinals (2-3) on Friday night. We’ll have coverage of the game on KJAN for the Class A District 9 match-up. The Vikings have put up some impressive numbers to start the season including holding their opponents to an average of 10 points per game. AHSTW Head Coach Davis Pattee said the Vikings have played great team defense with some great leaders on the line.

That defense will face a challenge this week from Earlham Tailback Caleb Swalla. He has rushed for 969 yards on the season with 9 touchdowns and Coach Pattee said he is a big part of a tough Earlham offense to prepare for.

The Vikings will counter with some balance on offense. Gabe Pauley is a great tailback as well, churning up 735 yards and 11 scores. The Vikings add the air threat with Blake Osbahr’s efficiency at quarterback and a number of threats to throw to, led by Drake Partridge. Osbahr has completed 73% of his passes and has thrown just one interception this year. Partridge has hauled in 13 passes for 394 yards and 8 touchdowns.

The Vikings and Cardinals are set for a 7:00pm kickoff in Earlham. Chris Parks and Mike Smith will have the call on KJAN with pregame starting at 6:30pm following our weekly pick ’em show Who’s Gonna Win? that starts at 6:00pm. You can catch the game on air at AM 1220, FM 101.1, online at kjan.com, on the web app, or watch the live video feed on our Facebook page. Stay tuned after the game for the Iowa High school Scoreboard Show from 10:00pm-11:30pm.

Atlantic hopes for happy homecoming against Falcons

Sports

September 27th, 2018 by admin

Trojan LogoThe Atlantic Trojans (2-3) football team is preparing for their homecoming game this week against the OA-BCIG Falcons (4-1). The Trojans have regrouped this week after a tough start to district play with a 45-14 loss to Kuemper Catholic last week. The Trojans failed to establish the run against the Knights and Atlantic Head Coach Mike McDermott said they need to get better in that aspect of the game to open up the rest of the offense.

The Falcons will line up in a similar fashion to the Knights as they like to spread the field, but the Falcons will be a bit more heavy on the short passing game. OA-BCIG has 5 receivers that have gained over 100 yards on the season and Coach McDermott said they will need to get pressure on Falcons QB Kaden Ladwig if they want to slow them down.

Ladwig has thrown for 1,286 yard and 15 touchdowns compared to just 4 interceptions, so he has been efficient., but he also poses a threat with his feet having rushed for six scores as well. Coach McDermott said the defensive front will have to play a great game to get pressure but also contain Ladwig.

The Trojans and Falcons will kick off the homecoming contest at 7:00pm on Friday at the Trojan Bowl.
